to february

things I want to do, read, watch, eat

this first week of february went by fast. the weather in the bay area has been crazy this week. and I've been too cold to do anything but make myself into a burrito in my electric blanket. anyway, here's to accomplishing as much as I can this month.

to finish reading:
the stolen queen by fiona davis
this is such an easy but interesting read but I can't quite just sit down and finish it. I will this month though.

to begin doing:
mimic writing poetry
this is a quick and easy exercise for me to get my creative juices flowing. I tend to read sonnets or haikus and mimic whatever poems I read then edit it down into something unique.

to rewatch & watch:
severance; mythic quest
two shows on apple tv that I desperately need to catch up on so I can watch the newest seasons. personally, I like mythic quest much more than severance as it has infinite rewatch-ability.

to begin eating:
whole grains, rice, veggies & small fish. eating these things is not only affordable but good for my health. I don't have the best diet so adding more legumes, veggies, and grains to my diet will definitely push me closer to that exercise heavy lifestyle.

so here's to this month. and hopefully my end of the month blog will be one of pride at accomplishing so much.

two books, one collection of poetry

so, if all goes according to plan, this month I will finish the following:

“those who wait” by haley cass
Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite. She's always had clear steps outlining her path to success with no time or inclination for romance. Her burgeoning career in politics means everything to her and she's not willing to compromise it for something as insignificant as love. Fleeting, casual, and discreet worked perfectly fine. When they meet through a dating app, it's immediately clear that they aren't suited for anything more than friendship. Right?

“the ruin of kings” by jenn lyons
Far from living the dream, Kihrin finds himself practically a prisoner, at the mercy of his new family's power plays and ambitions. He also discovers that the storybooks have lied about a lot of other things too: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins.

“bluets” by maggie nelson
A lyrical essay that explores the color blue through 240 numbered prose poems. It's a philosophical and cerebral work that examines depression, desire, pleasure, and pain, and how blue is associated with both sadness and calmness. The narrator is obsessed with blue and attempts to create a "pillow book" about it, but ends up confronting a painful affair and a friend's injury.

wicked (the movie)

yes, you should watch it

so, this movie played like the broadway play but in film form. the choreography and sets were so amazing and so fun. the solo, duet, and ensemble singing was beautiful and our two leads (ariana & cynthia) have such distinct voices and when they sang together, their pitches and ranges clashed and complimented each other in such an emotional way. I have high hopes for the sequel(s) and this movie will definitely be making it into my top five musicals.

I loved loved loved it all. definitely recommend this to everyone.

a trip to barnes & noble

anytime I go to a bookstore, I have to limit myself to one book. for obvious reasons. anyway, this time I chose “The Ruin of Kings” by Jenn Lyons. its blurb and chunky size definitely got my attention more than the other books I kept my eye on; it’s a story not about a hero but a villain born to destroy the world.

also, after upgrading my barnes & noble membership, I was able to pick a tote for free. I definitely had to choose the brown one. a brown canvas tote is always the best.

oh, there was also this pretty cool book reader’s gift box of a mug and reading light. it’s $24. I don’t think it’s worth the price but I might pick it up for my family’s white elephant Christmas game.

that’s it! thanks for being here and thanks for reading!
