Thrifting 101

Tips & Tricks for thrifty, frugal shopping!

Thrifting (Sensory overload)

Has anyone else experienced sensory overload when entering a thrift store or antique mall? No, just me! Maybe it is from all the neat things or could blatantly be all the "stuff" piled on top of each other. When you walk into Target, it's nice and tidy and is a great showroom. Target does make it easy to imagine an item in our homes.
Although every Goodwill I have ever visited has been above standard, from the way it smells to the color-coding of objects and their organizational skills (YAASSSS). However, Goodwill or any Thriftstore for that matter is not like shopping at Target. Maybe Goodwill needs to have a Starbucks. lol

I Digress!

So how do I overcome the sensory overload? I enter the situation with a plan.
Step 1: Know the layout of the ThriftStore or Antique Mall. *If an unfamiliar location start @ the area closes to the door. In case you need to bolt, I kid or not!
Lighting is better by the windows, and you can look outside if you get overwhelmed.
Step 2: Assign an area to start (Furniture, Kitchenware, Girls Clothing, and slowly work your way around each section if you want). Step 3: When looking, start from the top shelf and work your way down. It is "A-ok" to move items, especially the bottom shelf, I found many treasures hidden at the bottom.
Step 4: Pay attention to the feeling you feel when you find an item; does it bring you joy? (Konmari method) and envision it in your home.
Thrifting is not a "run in and grab" what you need kind of shopping, but an adventure, an experience of digging to unveil unique finds (sounds so romantic). Side note: it is ok to ask for a price adjustment if you find an exact item for cheaper.

What is the Minimalist Hoarder Market?

Why Hello Lovely!

Hello, My name is Danielle, and I am an amateur minimalist current hoarder of things vintage, antique, and just plain unique. What is a minimalist hoarder, you ask? Well, I am someone who is learning to live a life with more intentionality, clarity, and purpose. Not only mentally or internally but externally through the items I buy (i.e., home dΓ©cor, clothing, and food). So what does this mean for you? Well, I love to go on adventures into the world of thrifting & frugal shopping. Finding things second hand and giving them a second chance. The only problem is I am turning into a slight hoarder, and I know I could leave these items for others to collect. However, I am aware others may have no idea what to look for when thrifting as at times it can become very overwhelming. You may even search online markets to find antique and vintage goods, but the joy is taken away by the prices of these items. There is so much joy to be had when you find something you love and find it for a great deal. So, I want to be of assistance to you and others. Not only am I a thrifter who offers great deals but I also scout thrifty finds for others and heck, if you find an item you love, but do not know how to style it, I can throw some ideas your way. You tell me what you are looking for and not only will I find it, but I will also find it for a great deal.

This is Me!

I do not think I ever did an about me post so, here I am?

"Who are you?"
"I am you"
"I am me"
"No sir, you are you"
"I dunno"
"Two is two"

(Anyone on TikTok? In my defense, I have a teenager, and I am super cool) πŸ˜‰

Funny Story Alert; Met a lady at a "safe zone" to pick up chairs, and she was very shocked at how they fit in my trunk, my response, "Yes, you should see how many bodies fit in there." Was trying to make an awkward situation less but 😢 She looked at me with utter disgust and fear!

I am a comedian, a creator of making situations more awkward and I laugh at my jokes, who else is going to be there for you?!?!

Getting paid to go to school, graduated this year with my bachelor's in, "I am going to mess with your mind"(Psychology).πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…

I have a Bachelors of Science, so I have not learned the tricks of the trade......YET! I am working on my Masters in Mental and Clinical Health to become a Trauma Therapist. On a serious note, this is where my heart is, helping people thrive with the current tools they have despite their circumstances in this crazy thing called life! So I am a big advocate for mental health and illness.

We-meaning my spouse and I share our house with little people. They do not pay rent, eat all our food, borrow things without permission (isn't that called stealing?), and are always asking for something. One day they will get their acts together and move out, but until then, we are enjoying the laughter, creating memories and those good ole eye rollings, "duh's" and "yah's" (Teenagers, 😩)

Please stop trying to guess my age!

Speaking of spouse, mine is the most caring, supporting, β€œI will hide the body” kind of gent. You may see me talk about him from time to time because he helps with measuring and shipping.

Let's see some more stuff close to my heart, believer of what I put on my skin, in my body, or my home does impact me mentally and physically. For that reason, the products used in our house are mostly homemade or consciously purchased.

Lastly, I need to lead with this statement.....What I am about to say may trigger or offend ....Please Please Please reflect inwardly and not project because I can guarantee that your definition or interpretation of a Christ-follower is different than mine.

I am a believer in Jesus, am currently on a Jesus' journey of redefining what walking with Christ means (it seems to go on for eternity, 🀣 ......Clever Heather!!!). My internal mission or story is in no way me trying to convert anyone who is on MHMarket! I am a Christian who thrifts and created this Instagram account.

Again, if anything I said offends you, please look internally. I know a lot of people have trauma from religion, and you know how it feels to receive undue judgment, so please do not project your beliefs towards me as I will not project mine towards you!

And now for the............
