Grief is Love: Navigating the Journey

A space for reflection, healing, and honoring those we've lost.

Walking Through Grief 🤍

Losing my mother on June 25, 2024, my daughter Journee, my granddaughter Alanee on October 15, 2024, and now my firstborn, Ashlee on 12/8/25, has changed me forever. Grief is no longer something I visit, it is something I live alongside.

This page exists as a place of remembrance, honesty, and hope for anyone navigating loss.

I’ve learned that grief doesn’t have a finish line. Some days are heavier than others, and that’s okay.

Ways I’m Learning to Acknowledge and Coexist With Grief

🤍 Acknowledging Grief

Grief is a natural response to love and loss. There is no right or wrong way to feel.

🪷 Allow yourself to grieve without judgment
🪷 Take it one moment at a time—healing isn’t linear
🪷 Lean into people who will listen, sit quietly, or simply understand.

🤍 Honoring Their Memory

Keeping their light alive brings comfort, even in sorrow.

🪷 Create a memory jar filled with stories and moments
🪷 Start a cause in their name (like my Don’t Drive Drowsy campaign)
🪷 Do something they loved—cook their favorite meal, sing their song, say their name

🤍 Self-Care While Grieving

“You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

🪷 Rest when you need to
🪷 Journal your thoughts and feelings
🪷 Take walks, listen to music, or sit in silence
🪷 Allow moments of joy when they come—they do not diminish your love or loss

🤍 Resources & Support

You are not meant to carry this alone.

🪷 Talk with trusted friends or family
🪷 Join a grief support group (online or local)
🪷 Read books on grief and healing
🪷 Seek professional counseling—there is strength in asking for help

Walking Through Grief 🤍

In Loving Memory of Ashlee Lindell Padgett 🤍💛

Ashlee Lindell Padgett
September 16, 1996 – December 8, 2025

Ashlee bravely fought Lupus for three and a half years with strength, humor, and a heart that never stopped loving. Her body grew tired, but her spirit never dimmed. Even through dialysis, hospitalizations, and unimaginable pain, Ashlee continued to give choosing kindness, compassion, and joy.

Ashlee knew love.
She was happy, supported, and deeply cherished. She dreamed, laughed, planned a future, and allowed herself to live fully, even while sick. As her mom, there is no greater comfort than knowing my child experienced real, genuine love in this life.

Ashlee was intentional, even in preparing to leave. She chose Eternal Sunshine and asked that everyone wear yellow not black because she wanted light to lead, even in winter. She wanted smiles. She wanted warmth. She wanted love to be louder than sorrow.

She asked that her mom be taken care of.
She asked that I not be sad.

And while that feels impossible because she made me a mother, because we grew up together, because she was my homie, my best friend it speaks to who Ashlee was. Even at the end, she was still loving outward, still protecting others.

Ashlee did not lose to Lupus.
She did not give up.

She finished on her terms.

She is free from machines, pain, and exhaustion. Energy cannot be destroyed; it only changes form. Ashlee exists all around us in music, in laughter, in yellow, in love, in light.

She is not gone.
She remains.

🤍

Ashlee Lindell Padgett 9/16/96 - 12/8/25

Ashlee Lindell Padgett, born September 16, 1996, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and a heart that touched everyone who knew her. For the past three years, Ashlee bravely battled Lupus—a struggle she faced with remarkable strength and resilience. Despite the challenges she endured, she continued to show love, generosity, and compassion in ways that made her truly unforgettable. Ashlee was one of the most giving, loving, caring, and uniquely funny individuals in this world. She had a rare gift for making others feel seen, valued, and lifted up. Whether through her humor, her willingness to help anyone in need, or her gentle, comforting presence, Ashlee brought warmth and light wherever she went. Last year, Ashlee experienced the heartbreaking loss of both her sister and her niece—losses that deeply affected her and from which her heart never fully healed. Even in her own pain, she remained devoted to her family and friends, holding onto the love she had for them with everything she had left. Ashlee will be remembered not only for her beautiful spirit but for the fierce, selfless way she loved. Her absence leaves an ache that words cannot fully capture, yet her memory will live on in every life she touched. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Beulah Stallings and Linda Hitt, her sister Journee Padgett, and her niece Alanee Grace. Though her time here was far too short, the impact she made will remain forever. According to Ashlee’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Ashlee’s Life will be held at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday, December 19 at 2:30 PM. The family will receive family and friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM. Per Ashlee’s request, please do not wear black to the service but her favorite color, yellow.

Life After Loss

Under Construction — Just Like Me

Welcome to what was once Momma J’s Milkshake Haven, a joyful reflection of life in a big, bustling, blended family. I’m Jeanne, a mom of eight incredible kids. We were loud, loving, chaotic, and full of laughter. My page used to be filled with stories about my “dysfunctionally functional” household, milkshake recipes, and the everyday miracles that kept us going.

But now…
Everything is different.

On October 15, 2024, I lost my daughter Journee, my firecracker, my baby girl, only 19, and my granddaughter Alanee Grace, just 3 months and 23 days old. They died together in a head-on crash caused by drowsy driving. And the life I knew… ended with them.

This space, like me, is being rebuilt, not around what I’ve lost, but around who they were and the love that still remains. I call this journey:
“My Journee to Grace.”

It’s a walk through grief, but also through legacy, faith, healing, and purpose.
It’s a space for raw truth, sacred remembrance, and slowly, painfully, rediscovering hope.

If you’re here, thank you.
If you’re grieving too, I see you.
If you’ve known love, then you’ve also known loss.

God help me... I’m still showing up.
For Journee. For Alanee.
For all of us still here.

In memory of Journee Elizabeth Padgett & Alanee Grace Payne

Daughter, Sister, Mother, Bestie, Everyone's Favorite

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Journee Elizabeth Padgett and her beautiful daughter Alanee Grace Payne. Journee was born on January 30, 2005, in South Bend, IN to Shawn Padgett and Jeanne Olivier. Alanee was born on June 22, 2024 in Jackson, MI to Anthony Payne and Journee Padgett. Journee and Alanee’s lives were tragically cut short on October 15, 2024. A beloved daughter, sister and mother, Journee and Alanee’s passing leaves a void in the lives of all who were fortunate to know and love them.

Journee will be lovingly remembered by her parents Jeanne (Kenneth) Olivier of Jackson, MI, Shawn (Bethany) Padgett of Lexington, KY; her sisters Ashlee, Shawnee, Kenya, Aaliyah and Kyree of Jackson, MI; and brothers Amaree and Kenneth Jr. of Jackson, MI and Ethan of Lexington, KY; and grandparents Lee (Pamela Goodwine) Padgett of Lexington, KY; and Anthony Payne, father of Alanee Grace of Monroe, MI. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Beulah Stallings and Linda Hitt. Her most cherished role, however, was as mother to her daughter, Alanee Grace. Journee’s love for her daughter was profound and she strived to create a beautiful and loving home for her. Alanee was healthy, happy and loved immensely.

Journee's exuberant personality is described by those around her as loving, caring, bubbly, and beautiful. She was a lover of life and brought so much joy to everyone’s life she entered. She was an outstanding cook, a hardworking homemaker, and devoted follower of God.

Her professional dedication was equally remarkable. As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Journee provided care and comfort to many in their last days. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was her daughter, Alanee, who was the center of her universe. Journee was an example of strength and courage, facing life's challenges head-on with quiet bravery.

Journee's legacy is one of kindness and generosity. She believed in loving her family fiercely and demonstrated this throughout her life. Her favorite moments were those spent at home surrounded by loved ones. The warmth and joy that filled Journee's gatherings are memories her family will treasure forever.

Journee and Alanee's lives, albeit short, were rich in love, laughter, and shared adventures. Their spirits remain alive in the love Journee poured into her family and the kindness she showed to the world. They will be deeply missed by all who knew them.

Please join us in honoring the life of Journee Elizabeth and Alanee Grace on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024

Thinning Hair? Hair Loss?

Not anymore! We got you boo. My 26 year old daughter Ashlee was diagnosed with stage 5 lupus in November of 2022, and out of nowhere she needs a kidney transplant. On top of all the stress she's been under she began losing her hair from complications with blood pressure medicine. The medicine helped her dangerously high blood pressure, but left her with rapidly thinning Hair and no hope or solution. Until Momma J hooked her up with a regimen safe for her end stage renal failure diagnosis and stage 5 lupus with chronic hypertension. Don't worry babe... you are not alone and we can help you regain your confidence and grow back your glory. 💜

Momma J: Honoring My Angels

Honoring Love, Sharing Memories, and Turning Loss into Purpose

Hi, I'm Jeanne Olivier.
I’m a mom of 8 amazing kids, a Memee to one perfect granddaughter in heaven, and someone learning how to carry joy and heartbreak in the same breath. In October 2024, my daughter Journee (forever 19) and my granddaughter Alanee Grace (forever 3 months and 23 days old) were killed in a drowsy driving accident. Losing them shattered my world, but their light continues to guide everything I do.

I created the “Don’t Drive Drowsy” campaign in their honor to raise awareness and protect others from the silent danger that changed our lives forever. Their story deserves to be spoken. Their names deserve to be remembered.

My greatest role in life is being mom to Ashlee (28), Shawnee (25), Kenya (24), Amaree (18), KJ (17), Aaliyah (13), Kyree (10), and Journee. My only grandbaby, Alanee Grace, was pure sunshine. I carry their love and legacy with me every single day.

When I’m not working in education or advocacy, you can find me with my two loyal dogs, Bear and Oaklee, and a house full of cats with names as extra as my heart:
Miss Mittens Smokey Mountain BBQ, Chadwick (Bozeman, of course), Tye Dye, Memee’s Sugar, Buffalo Chicken Dip, and Boots.

I also grow a lush plant collection (shoutout to Brianna the Monstera, now over 6 feet tall!), write quirky jingles and parodies, and use journaling and TikTok to navigate grief, healing, and humor.

Whether you’re here to connect, laugh, cry, or learn about drowsy driving prevention, I’m so glad you’re here. This space is built on love, legacy, advocacy, and continuing to show up even when it hurts.
