Filmmaker Kolby Edwards and International Big Game Hunter, Frank Spencer reunite for another free-roaming hunting experience, this time four years later and deep in the wilds of an unfamiliar corner of Niassa Province, Mozambique. With a new species also on the list, they find themselves in the heart of an area know as "Chipanje Chetu" translated meaning "Our Wealth". Here tradition is woven into every moment.

Before the hunt commences Frank and PH Duane participate in an ancient hunting ceremony, where the word "Chonde" – meaning "please" in the local Yao language – echoes to their ancestors over and over. Locals respectfully ask the spirits of past chiefs for safety and success, blending the excitement of the hunt with a profound cultural experience.

The Art of The Hunt Documented

The word ‘Mutambo” finds it home in the Shona language originating from Zimbabwe. It has several interpretations but we relate with the word best when used to refer to an adventure. An adventure that we interpret as one undertaken by a hunter.

A hunters journey is one that takes us deeper into the wilderness than anything else does. It puts us on the front lines of wildlife conservation and gives us a first hand experience of the human condition encompassed by its challenges, defeats, relentlessness and victories.

Mutambo Films was created to document that journey.

Kolby Edwards - Head of Film

Mutambo Films was created by hunter and filmmaker Kolby Edwards. Since its establishment in 2019, Kolby has traveled across Africa documenting hunting safaris for both hunters and outfitters.

After graduating from film school with a degree in cinematography, Kolby ventured to Niassa province in northern Mozambique with Cabassa Safaris for his very first big game hunting safari.

“It is a safari that I will cherish for the rest of my life as it revealed to me what a hunt should be, a challenge and a victory worth something.”

Since then he has continued to develop his cinematic skill while venturing to the untamed corners of Africa documenting big game hunting and the vital conservation initiatives undertaken by hunters and outfitters.

“I think my favourite part of documenting a safari is when I’m able to capture and share the conservation efforts of hunters working to conserve millions of acres of wilderness across Africa. Hunters are on the frontlines of wildlife conservation daily and I think it’s a compelling truth and story that needs to be documented”
