Qatar magic —

What I expected of Qatar was to be full of dust and sand along with muted boring colors. Qatar was so much more than I expected!

Qatar is known as the “middle east for beginners” because it's an area where you can enjoy the flavor and richness of the Arab culture while still having many Western conveniences, and although Qatar has been modernized in a number of ways, it is still a traditional Muslim country. This means you need to respect their traditions, cultures and religion and act and dress appropriately when in public.  Furthermore daily life is dictated by the Islamic culture and calendar. Products such as Pork are not allowed to be consumed in restaurants and alcohol is restricted to hotel bars. Understanding that weeks runs through from Sunday to Thursday. Friday is the Islamic holy day, which means that most businesses and stores close until the evening.

THE SOUK WAQIF IS AMAZING!!!!

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a city that smells as good as Doha. The smell alone in the Souq Waqif — the main marketplace had me feeling as if I was back in my mother’s kitchen smelling her home cooked curry and dal. The Spices, perfumes, and incense all filled the air, and it all made for the most heavenly blend of scents. Its covered passageways are stuffed with dozens of tiny stores piled high along the market's mud-coated stone walls. You would be truly amazed on what you would find. From garments to spices, perfumes to diamonds, scented oils to falcons ( yes I said a damn falcons). Whenever I went to the Souk I would spend my days wandering around this area wanting to dive nose-first into every restaurant and market stall I passed. When I think back to my time in Qatar, my memory is focused solely on the smells.

The Souk is one of the most culturally rich places in Doha and a standing piece of Qatar's history. It sits right in the heart of Doha just off its waterfront, the souq's site literally dates back to a 100 years when Bedouin and local traders would gather here to buy and sell livestock, spices, wool, pearls and other staple goods. It’s Cobbled alleys, old lanterns, big wooden doors and ceilings made of bamboo makes your feel like you are truly in another world and another time.

Yes it is a Muslim Country However......

Even though women dress in a manner that is modest, the dress code is generally driven by social customs and is more relaxed in comparison to other nations in the region. women are not expected to wear a hijab or cover their heads that is absolutely their choice. You will see women in customary dresses that include "long black robes" and black head cover "hijab", however don’t get it twisted It wouldn’t surprise you to see that some younger women chose to wear elaborately decorated abayas With impeccable makeup, while Rocking Birkin Bags and 6 inch Red Bottoms. While others choose to go the traditional route But 9 times out of 10 you will see women dressed in  traditional regional clothing.

I Felt Safe!

Ok hear me out on this one. Yes I felt perfectly safe while in Qatar. For some reason I felt like I was kinda home. Maybe because of my Indian heritage and I felt it was always a little bit easier to blend in, in Middle Eastern counties more so than my peers. However Qatar was no exception. It’s actually one of the safest countries in the world, and occasionally ranks as the safest place on the entire planet. Violent crimes are extremely rare in this country, and when they happen, they’re not usually aimed at foreigners. I felt super-safe when wandering around on my own at the Souq or going to the market to buy food.

The Architect Tho!!!

Wanna know something interesting about me! I love Architecture. Yes I’m one of those people that will sit and watch you tube videos for hrs on what goes into making a house, from flooring, windows, to the full on layout. And while in Qatar I was seriously obsessed. The architecture here is amazing! There are so many interesting lines and curves on all of the buildings, and they made taking photos so much fun. I think I walked around Doha with my jaw constantly open, snapping photos of absolutely everything.

And even though there isn’t much greenery ( because duhhhhh There are only like six countries in the world that don’t have a single forest on their land: Qatar, Oman, Nauru, Greenland, San Marino, and Gibraltar) you wouldn’t really notice with the amazing buildings that surround you.

Qatar, is a a country with countless opportunities for learning a new culture . I found my self falling in love with the food, the architecture, the scents and the scenery. At times we get to travel to one amazing place in life, Qatar was my amazing place.

Things I’ve Learned With Age  —

THE BIG 35 !!!

Things I’ve learned with age……..

Life isn’t measured in the number of years you live, but by the number of stories you can tell.

Stop looking for inspiration in people around you and start being an inspiration to others – this is the best way to live your best life.

A time machine will probably not be invented in your lifetime. So better start living life to the fullest while you still can.

Lastly Life isn't about your age. Life is about living. So when your birthday comes be thankful for the year that has just past and anticipate with a happy heart what the coming year will bring.
