Things i wanted to do on my gap year

Travelling…

I finished my A levels on a random Thursday in March 2020 as covid had hit, my post a level plans were to go travelling to Australia with my best friend. However, thanks to covid i didn’t go and now after patiently waiting nearly 2 years for covid to go away i am still not on Bondi beach. Even though I didn’t make it to Oz here are all the places i would have visited if I did go to Oz.

First stop – Sydney

Sydney is defiantly up there as one of the most expensive cities in the world, though it might come as a surprise that it’s also the back packer city. With places such as Bondi beach, great architecture, great art scene and great culture. I lived in Australia for 4 years and i visited Sydney twice and I can honestly say it’s one of my fave cities!!! Day activities in Sydney would have been obviously the Opera house and Sydney Harbour bridge (Hopefully have the courage to climb it) this is all located in Circular Quay

Manly Beach

I also wanted to then go on to taking the ferry to Manly beach and snorkelling, Manly beach is very scenic and picturesque with lots of beaches, cafes and restaurants. There are also lots of shops located on the beach front and some will offer rental snorkelling equipment.

Whale watching and Swimming with whales

Now when i saw that you could swim with whales my first thought was HELL NO however, after lots of persuading from my friend i thought it would be an experience of a lifetime!! It was called the Moby Dick tour and offers this unique experience for those crazy enough to do it. The website when described you floating in the unknown and seeing a 40 Ton whale that is 20 meters long just floating next to you… now if that’s not scary I don’t know what is!!!!

Tips to help you when starting at the gym

For Newbies

Starting the gym can be very daunting, especially if you’ve never been before and have no clue where to start.

My first tip would be even if you feel like everyone is watching you… trust me they are not. I found when I started going to the gym that everyone was looking at me and thinking ‘wow she has no idea what she is doing’. But the truth is everyone is just there to get on with their workout and not even focusing on anyone else. I found this the hardest thing to get into my head that no one cares what I’m doing!!

My second tip is to research some work outs to do before you go to the gym, Tik Tok is where I find most of my work out routines. It gave me different exercises that I can do to help me not feel like such a newbie in the gym. Finding different accounts on Tin Tok also helped me as I could see that I’m not the only person who has no idea what they are doing!!

My third tip is to go with a friend, I found this to be so helpful as it motivate you, having someone there to push you to get out of bed and go to the gym. I also found it useful as I didn’t feel so observed when using the equipment. This made it easier to get stuck in a try new things.

My final tip is to try and pick a time of the day when its not so busy, this will help with feeling watched and judged. Try a pick a time when you know it will be bit quieter. Some gyms now offer an app which will allow you to see a live number of how many people are in the gym at that time, which is very useful.

How to survive a festival

Top Tips

I went to my first festival when I was 17 with a few of my friends and now 4 festivals in, I am now going to pass on my knowledge…

The Donts:
1: pack lightly- Whatever you pack in your backpack is what you have to carry and I learnt that the hard way. Trying to take all your homely possessions is unnecessary and you won’t use half the stuff you pack.

2: Don’t take anything valuable, you are in a massive field and things are bound to get stolen or misplaced so leave your most prized possessions at home.

The DOS
1: take enough snacks and drinks for the weekend, most festivals will have a shop for example reading festival has a co op however, it is VERY expensive and the queue will be huge.

2: Plan your outfits so you aren’t taking too many clothes, this will just take up valuable space.

3: Take portable chargers so your phone doesn’t die!!

The necessities
- baby wipes
-charger
-suncream
-food and drink
- blankets
-ear plugs and sleep mask
-bumbag

And remember HAVE Fun!!!!
