Say NO to Industrial Zoning
A brief history
The Hirschfeld Family are 100% owners of the land, mineral rights, and operating
business associated with the ConAg Quarry in Noble Township, Auglaize County, OH. The Hirschfeld’s have owned and operated ConAg quarry for 45 years, since its inception.
Their mineral reserves are conservatively estimated at well over 100 years. Of the 270+ acres owned by the Hirschfelds, 100% have been zoned and permitted for mining.
What’s going on?
On March 21, Noble Township zoning committee was made aware of a proposed re zoning of 142 acres from an Agricultural zone to an Industrial zone. The 142 acres would be an intended stone quarry. The proposal was created by Kevin Weber from a trucking firm named Weber Building Materials.
Weber Materials (different from Weber Building Materials) is currently working as a contractor to crush stone at the Hirschfeld’s ConAg quarry. Kevin Weber is a partner in Weber Materials which has a mining lease at ConAg quarry that ends in six years in April 2030.
The Hirschfeld family was NOT aware of or involved in any aspect of Kevin Weber’s filing to rezone additional Noble Township properties for the purpose of stone mining.
Neither Weber Building Materials nor Weber Materials nor Kevin Weber own any acres or rights to mineral reserves associated with ConAg quarry. Weber has not consulted the Hirschfeld Family about expanding the family's existing ConAg quarry business.
Kevin Weber’s intention is for a new quarry and will be in competition with the current ConAg quarry. It is NOT an expansion of the current quarry. What’s does this mean for Noble Township residents?
If the current 142 acre farmland is re zoned to an Industrial zone, the Noble Township community will face significant turmoil. Many homes surrounding the proposed Industrial Zone will be negatively impacted by increased truck traffic, noise and dust pollution and potential home structural damage as well as a risk of severe well and/or water table damage.
What will this do to our countryside?
The potential rezone and new quarry will be adjacent to the historic Miami-Erie canal and Heritage trail. This beautiful and peaceful historic site will undoubtedly be damaged by the disturbance of blasting, dust and distribution of natural ecosystems. The Miami-Erie canal attracts visitors from all over Ohio and is something Noble Township is extremely proud to be apart of.
