Med Surg/Tele Nurse

Why Nursing?

I have never considered nursing as my first career choice. In fact, in my undergraduate studies, I pursued premed to become a doctor. But along that journey, nursing chose me. The constant battles with my health forced me to see nursing through a fresh pair of eyes. My frequent hospital stays deepen my appreciation for nurses and strengthen my commitment for patient care. I understand what it’s like to be a patient totally dependent on someone else for care because I’ve been there myself. My personal experiences have prepared me for a career in nursing. It has allowed me to see the patient as a whole and not just someone with an illness. Nurses are there for their patients from the beginning of life to the end. Nurses are their patient’s advocates, social workers, case managers, educators and caregivers. Although the journey has been difficult sometimes, today I am happy that nursing chose me!
