Future nor past has no effect on the present. One could choose not to be scared of the future and not shame one’s past. What one should focus on is the present. The only time one could attend, even though sometimes present is also scary, one could choose not to be scared of the gift. Even the present effect on one could be reduced.
Natures know best; what is good for the community is usually good for you. Hence stop being so arrogant and selfish the universe is not rotating around you. Start doing something good for the community because what’s good for the community is good for you.
“Momento Mori,” remember you will die, always remember that every accomplishment, pride, wealth would be nothing in front of death. People around you that salute, fear and admire you of them will die. Also, people that will remember you are going to die. So stop caring so much over others thoughts about you, start doing what you love, enjoy, and have a habit, reach stillness.
Like Diogenes, the only thing he asked from alexander was, “get out of the way you are blocking my sun”. As Marcus Aurelius treats death as an ordinary human event, death is not something scary, and we are prone not to talk about it. As Epictetus said, “If it is now, well then I die now; if later, then now I will take my lunch, since the hour for lunch has arrived – and dying I will tend to later.”. Focus on the only time you could attend it’s the present.
