About Me

Hi there! My name is Emily, and this is my blog to document my life as a new grad pediatric OT!

I graduated from the University of St. Augustine in April of 2020, and I am excited to jump into the field of occupational therapy! OT has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My younger sister was born in 2000 and was diagnosed with Down syndrome. She began receiving early intervention OT and PT services in the home at just 2 weeks old! Once she was big enough, we started going to outpatient therapy services, and of course as a 3-year-old with no say in the matter, I tagged along!

As I grew up going with my family to therapy, we joked that I was either going to love it or hate it. Luckily I fell in love with it all, especially occupational therapy! The OT that worked with my sister from the beginning became close with our family and included me in things whenever she could, making me feel like I had a big role in the process! I knew that one day, I would love to do that for other kids and their families!

As a new grad OT, I wanted to figure out the best way to document my journey! During my doctoral capstone, I really found a passion for creating resources and sharing information with other therapists. With this account I hope to share what I learn as a new practitioner, heighten my own desire to expand my knowledge, and even someday share resources that I create! I hope you join me along the way!
