Pieces and Threads Shop

antiques and homemade pieces for the well-loved home

I created my shop to share with you some of the things i love most - beautiful antiques and handmade pieces. I love that an antique piece carries history with it, whether its known history of a family member or years and years of ownership by someone entirely unknown.

Handmade pieces celebrate the slowness of the creative process and the care and detail required to make something by hand. Quilts have easily become one of my most adored pieces to find/admire and to make! They remind me of all seasons - rainy days snuggled up with a good book, sunny afternoons with a picnic at the park, brisk mornings with a cup of coffee on the patio, and movie nights with snow gently falling outside.

By hope for this shop is to remind you of the simple things in life and help you create a well-loved home filled with meaningful pieces ❤️

Autumn Gathering Takeaways

Here are a few recommendations as you continue to consider, rest, and reflection during the autumn season :-)

  1. Book Recommendation - Every Moment Holy - Volume I

Book Recommendation - Every Moment Holy - Volume I

I love that God is with us every moment of every day, but sometimes i forget that. I've come to love liturgies and this book has been sweet and helpful to me, turning my heart and perspective towards the Lord even in the mundane or everyday routines.

  2. Autumn Gathering Spotify Playlist

    Autumn Gathering Spotify Playlist

I love how music can set a mood and the autumn season is such a mood! Haha I've putting together a playlist of sweet tunes that make me just long for a cool saturday with the windows open or a gloomy rainy day baking good food. A lot of the music also points me to Jesus and His grace and provision, which I've found are super grounding as move into a new season!

  3. Homesong Market Autumn Equinox Sale

    Homesong Market Autumn Equinox Sale

This shop is a favorite of mine for all things practical and beautiful! Located in Kansas City, but available online. They are running a sale today only (9/23) for the first day of autumn. If you're looking for a seasonal refresh, use the code AUTUMNEQUINOX for 20% off the autumn collection.

  4. Nine-Patch Basic Quilt Tutorial

    Nine-Patch Basic Quilt Tutorial

A hobby that i love to pick back up during the fall is quilting. I love the transformation of piecing blocks together and the slowness of hand quilting! In case you want to give quilting a try, here is a tutorial for a basic quilt pattern - the nine-patch! Farm and Folk is one of my original inspirations to begin quilting, and I still love seeing what she creates!

  5. Pumpkin Beeswax Candles

    Pumpkin Beeswax Candles

For the past couple of years, I've discovered and loves beeswax candles! They're air friendly and have lovely glows - and you can pour them at home. Woodlark blog has a tutorial on using small pumpkins as a biodegradable vessel option! She also has tons of other tutorials for seasonal crafts that are simple and lovely.

Knitting

Let's be friends!

I love sharing about my knitting projects and gaining inspo from others on Instagram! However, sometimes it's fun to get not just a snapshot but a full picture into someone's knitting journey, past and present! I joined Ravelry over a couple years ago and it's a great resource for finding specific patterns and seeing how others have used them.

Below is a link to my Ravelry page! If you're on there too, I'd love to be friends and see what you've completed and/or your wips!

Ravelry Project Page

Find more detailed information about what patterns and materials I used, the gauge and sizing I chose, and notes about how it went and maybe what I'd do differently next time. You can also find photos of each project in multiple stages saved in one place.

SNEAK PEEKS

OF MY CURRENT PROJECTS

I love to create - for myself, for others, and for you!

If you visit me and get the sewing room tour, you'll find out that I have a million projects in the works and a million more in my head hehe so I've decided to share projects from the above categories in various stages. You'll find a few wips (aka works-in-progress) and a completed project thats already been gifted to its new home 💫💫💫

For Myself - Oversized Seasons Cardigan

I've been working on this beauty for a *long time* but each step in the pattern keeps me excited and looking forward to the finished project! Knit projects are perfect for on-the-go, especially in the summer!!! (despite the idea that knitting is counter to warm temperatures)

I am currently binding off the body using sewn tubular cast off method and then will just have the sleeves to knit and buttons to sew on to complete it!

Ozetta is one of my absolute FAVORITE knitwear pattern designers. They are beginner-friendly patterns and she is the kindest human who has messaged with me back and forth when I've had questions. I've linked her sweater pattern for this project below!

For Others - Anker's Suit

My cousin recently gave birth to her first baby and I knew I wanted to gift her something special for him.

After completing my first project from a PetiteKnit pattern, I knew I had to try put another :) I decided that the Anker's Suit would be perfect for a new babe: practical access to change diapers, simple but sweet design, and flexible enough to customize the length of the sleeves for warmer weather. And it turned out perfect! I cannot wait to see him in it💕💕

I've linked the pattern below! I also am linking the yarn that I used for the suit from Purl Soho, aka my favorite hobby supply store EVER. Seriously haha

For You - Children's Outdoor Quilt

I have so many ideas to share with and for you all! This week I've made great progress on one of those 🥰

Picture this: a quilt bottom that can rest on damp summer grass and be wiped clean. a detachable quilt top that is durable and machine-washable.

I don't have children, but I know practicality and durablity are super helpful for moms with littles. Throwing the character of a quilt in there is fun and sweet too. So those are all in my vision for an outdoor children's quilt 💫

I've assembled the quilt top and bottom and have begun the quilting process. Materials include upholstery fabric scraps, cotton denim, cotton batting, and pvc vinyl material.

About the Creator

Eleanor Yoder

Hi, i am curator and creator for the pieces and threads shop. I have a heart for practical and useful things that are also beautiful -- which is what I tend to keep in mind as I hunt for antiques and design handmade pieces.

I have a career as a civil engineer, which compliments (or fuels) my love for quilts and knitting. (Math is everywhere, my friends hehe) I began quilting and sewing about 2.5 years ago and just haven't looked back since.

My life is an ever-evolving story that is meant for the glory of God by grace
My savior Jesus is king over my life - heart, mind, and body - and it is hard work every day to choose him, but i do because he is worth it. It is through his Holy Spirit that i am ever-evolving and experiencing his sanctification.

You can learn more about my creative journey, how I got here, and God's grace in my life through these hobbies at the Spotify link below! I had the privilege to chat with my friend, Paige, on her podcast 💕💕💕
