About

Baliktanaw Conference 2020

The Baliktanaw Virtual Conference will be held from November 21 - 22, 2020. This conference aims to bridge a longstanding divide between diasporic Filipinos and Filipinos in the motherland. It also aims to create a sustainable discussion addressing some of the historical backgrounds of localizing Filipinos globally. The rich history of Filipinos in Hawaii is significant in understanding the full picture of exploring the authenticity of the Filipino experience. It is important to recognize the intricacies of influences that have molded Filipino ethnic and political identity today.

We hope to provide our participants with an immersive experience of Filipino diasporic history through our speakers and panelists––each with a drive and passion to empower participants to fully embrace their cultural identity. These sessions provide a brief overview of Filipino cultural history to introduce tools to allow participants to take charge within their respective communities. In this conference, we hope to promote a space to amplify the voices of our community; to fight for social justice and human rights and lead the next generation
