Educational Resources
I'm more of the idea that kids need to learn skills that aren't taught in school. I'd rather my kids knew how to treat people with respect than how to do long division. I'd rather they knew about the history of our world without having to memorize dates and names they'll forget anyway. I'd rather they practiced empathy and loving others instead of practicing cursive handwriting.
So I might be biased.
But if you want some stuff to keep your kid learning in a way that is more structured and measurable... we have used ABC Mouse (and it's fun and great!) and we are about to sign up for Time4Learning.com for both kids because it's an entire curriculum. I recommend both.
There's also a link below to look at or order physical materials (books, magnets, workbooks, games, etc) for structured learning time.
• Remember to focus on reading/language arts, math, and science.
• Learning happens all the time - try to think of (or Google) ways to learn while doing everyday things (learn math by cooking, learn science by going on a walk and collecting leaves, etc).
• Remember that spending time together is the best for you and your kids right now. It's more important than learning.
Hi
My favorites
Books I recommend. Mostly sci-fi ✨🌙
The Dune series (in this order: Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse) - Frank Herbert
The prequels written by Herbert's son are fun, but the best books are written by Frank himself.
The Hyperion series - Dan Simmons
Incredible, cerebral set of books with a powerful message and the BEST worldbuilding
Call Me By Your Name - André Aciman
The Body Keeps the Score - Bessel Van Der Kolk
Amazing book about the physical manifestations of trauma
Most things by Kurt Vonnegut of course, because I think his writing style is fun (esp Cat's Cradle)
Learning All the Time - John Holt
Handmade ceramics
Here are my favorites (and they're not all boob pottery I swear)
