About
Hi, I’m Rachel, a young artist from Belfast, who has recently completed a degree in Fine Art at the University of Ulster. As a landscape painter, I am interested in portraying my personal perception of nature in my work. Through my paintings, I depict such perceptions through expressive abstract moments and I often use a combination of complementary and high-key colours to instil a sense of calmness. My work also aspires to capture the effects of seasonality in colour. I have a deep and personal connection to a particular area that is surrounded by natural landscapes, Ballycastle.
This shoreline at Ballycastle has everchanging unique characteristics that are defined by the power of the sea. Although the features of the shore are in constant flux, there is a consistency in my painted response that is informed by my private memories. Spending time in the studio reflecting and remembering is a type of catharsis.
