Romance Scammer Crackdowners

Don't be Deceived

🤷‍♀️Scammers are everywhere but Romance Scammers are becoming a big presence on Social Media.

They use fake pictures of innocent people and profiles to make connections with innocent people in order to scam you.

What does this mean? It means they are professional liars. They lie for a living. They probably receive training and have a leader.

A single profile or name presence may very well have 10 people using it and pretending to be that person.

They tell you they are legit, Produce grandiose storylines about who they are and what they do, and profess immediate love for you.

Their main objective is to get you to fall for their story and believe that they are legit. When in fact they are not.

They do this with a script usually or they may make up similar lines. They ask you questions about your favorite color, your line of work, what did you have for dinner? How's the weather and how was your day?

They send you love letters that are poetic in nature.

If you tell them what you had for dinner, they tell you they wish they were there to dine with you.

If you talk about problems they say they wish they were there to help you.

They talk about meeting you ,marrying you ,spending the rest of their life with you.

But they string you along with excuses as to why they cannot meet with you yet. The purpose is that they are stranded, have a contract, assignment etc. They cannot access the money they profess to have and need your help

First they might try to ask for a large amount from you. And if you cannot send them a large amount, they will ask you for a small gift card, google play, itunes, steam card, Amazon gift card etc etc. Sometimes they will have a child in boarding school.

They will use this to ask you if you could at least help the child who needs to pay for supplies and phone etc.

They will ask you to use your bank account or open a new one. They may ask you to use bitcoin or paypal to send money.

There may be other scammed innocent people involved in sending you a check to deposit.

They say they are oilrig workers on a contract and cannot access their accounts. They say they can't do video chat because it is forbidden on the rig.
They say they have to sneak to call you.

Or they say the are in the military. And they don't have a way home unless you send them money.

When they do call their accent is a red flag.

They could be Nigerians or Arabs.

They start out on a social platform. Facebook being the top one. They friend request you through a fake profile that has pictures of a very attractive person whom they claim to be. They start chatting. They ask you to give them your phone number or email, to go to Whatsapp or Google hangout.

This is so they can send you pictures containing maleware and as backdoor Trojans they will hack your phone to try to set up an account in your name or get onto your banking app. They may even kill your phones battery.

Then you have to get a new phone. Since you don't suspect them, you reconnect and then they hack again to watch you set up your accounts.

Another thing they will do is stalk your Facebook friends list. So if you have accepted them as a friend. Make your friend list private and available to friends and friends of friends at your own discretion accept for "them" and put them on the list of those who cannot see your friends list.

Get a VPN ( virtual private network) for your phone and computer.

Don't send them your pictures or your personal information. Don't open files or pictures they send you. On whstsapp go into settings on make sure that you don't allow automatic downloads
