About Sam

Songwriter | Artist | Witch

Hexing the haters since ‘93. This outspoken feminist witch came flying back into the Canadian country music scene 3 years ago and hasn't stopped shaking things up since. Sam Davs is a multi-talented Canadian songwriter, artist and entrepreneur who loves to use her music to raise a little hell, conjure up positivity and get a little spooky.

With a background in songwriting, music business and audio production, she fearlessly paves a new way in the country music scene by trying to mesh the essence of gothic folklore into every song she creates. With music she likes to call Spookytonk, this unique sound is quickly putting her at the forefront of the country indie scene as the go-to for anyone who wants to tell a story with darker imagery and a sassy tone.

Having written over 250 song, her seven (7) songwriting cuts have currently hit over 3/4 of a million collective streams. Davs’ most notable songwriting cut is with country artist Nicole Rayy and song Graveyard released in late 2022. It has amassed over 500k accumulative streams, 60k views on the music video and has seen much success on TikTok with over 1.2 Million views and 1000s of fan made videos. On release day, it peaked at #56 on the iTunes Charts and landed many playlists across all streaming platforms including Amazon editorials “Brand New Music” & “Breakthrough Country.” Nicole Rayy’s album “Now & Then” which features the song, has just been nominated for Album of the year at the 2024 CMAOntario Awards. The pop remix of the song was released in October 2023 and has also garnered over 60k accumulative streams and Tiktok success.

Currently, Sam has 5 other songwriting cuts – “Scars to Prove It” by London, ON pop/country singer-songwriter Sarina Haggarty which has over 70k accumulative streams. The heartfelt ballad, “By Your Side” by Stratford, ON country artist James Downham, off his latest album The Long Way Home. The sassy bop “Dear Karma” by Toronto country/pop artist Maddie Corrine off upcoming EP. Finally, “Magic 8 - Ball” by Toronto’s country/pop artist Peter Peres which has hit over 50k streams and was added into daily rotation on satellite radio, Sirius XM Top of the Country CH 171.

In February of 2023, Sam released her own sassy country-rock single "Wish You Were Hotter," after being told by a guy that if she was "just a little bit hotter" he would have dated her. What a loser. Igniting a fire inside, she wanted to take back the words and give them a new meaning. Telling her story about how he would have been hotter if he were a better person on the inside, the song is a body positive and empowering eff-you-kick-ass-self-love-anthem that you can scream at the top of your lungs or send to your ex that you really don't like.

The debut peaked at #44 on the iTunes Country Charts and has seen great reception from fans and industry with close to 20,000 accumulative streams, being added to hundreds of playlists and landing her recognition as "One to Watch" on Studio B With Sarah Scott and "Fresh Face Friday" by C to C Country Music Insider.

Sam's artistry and songwriting have been mentioned in many country press outlets such as Taste of Country, Canadian Beats, The Manor Park Chronicles and the Country Music Association of Ontario. Davs was just awarded 2nd place for “Best Solo Artist” by The Ottawan (Ottawa, ON.)

When it comes to performing, Sam has played festivals such as the HOPE volleyball festival in Ottawa, ON and on the all female lineup for Harmoniafest 2023 in Uxbridge, ON. Davs has been on multiple All Woman Music Songwriter Showcases in Toronto, performed during CCMA week 2022 in Calgary, ON, CMAOntario 2023 in Hamilton and at the Bluejay Sessions during CCMA week 2023.

What new things has Sam been up to lately?

She debuted her very own songwriter showcase “The Country Coven” at the 2023 CCMA week in Hamilton, ON with a sold out show at the Casbah.

She also debuted her own podcast in October 2023 called “Ghouls Country Club.” Co-hosted by fellow singer-songwriter Nicole Rayy, the show highlights independent Canadian country music talent and all things spooky. The pilot episode debuted at #82 on the Apple Podcast Charts.

Sam is looking forward to many more songwriting cuts coming in 2024.

“Creative. Smart. Open minded. Those are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of Sam. The first time I ever met and worked with Sam was virtually over zoom and she immediately made me feel comfortable and welcome. Her talent runs as deep as her kindness and she has quickly became one of my favourite people to collaborate with. Although still quite new to the music scene, her skills are not going unnoticed. Sam is already getting songwriting cuts from multiple other artists and I would recommend working with her to anyone! “
