Sasha Gutiérrez
Opera Singer • Entrepreneur
Praised by her “versatility” and “splendid vocalism” (Voce di Meche), Colombian soprano Sasha Gutiérrez is a passionate opera performer, soloist and recitalist. Her roles include Helena (A midsummer night’s dream) with the Bogotá Philharmonic, Fiordiligi (Cosí fan tutte) and Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica) with Manhattan School of Music Opera Theater. In May 2021 she reprised the role of Fiordiligi in the debut production of The Opera Next Door. As a recitalist, she has been a two time winner of Colombia’s most prestigious recital competition Jóvenes Intérpretes in 2013 and 2016.
During the pandemic, in an effort to maintain opera alive in New York City, Sasha founded The Opera Next Door (TOND), an independent opera company based in Brooklyn that has the mission of fostering relationships with and within communities by creating free, site-specific opera productions in collaboration with community groups and leaders in diverse, working-class New York neighborhoods. Its debut production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte was attended and praised by over 600 people in the audience that watched the performances in May of 2021. As a result of this endeavor, Sasha was named one of the Top 30 Professionals of the Year 2021 by Musical America.
