Celestial Beast is an 11-day accumulation of intensive dance studies that demonstrates the tools and knowledge I've learned around creation and stage production. The goal is to quickly amass experience through immediate practice and embodiment of these tools. Structuring a deadline for 'complete' work that is also purposely 'unfinished' allows me to experience the full range of motions and emotions of what it is like to be a choreographer and producer of my own artistic work.

CB is Phase II of my professional development project made possible the Early Career Development Grant thanks to the BC Arts Council.

Filmed Jan 20, 2022, at Left of Main in historic Chinatown on the unceded and ancestral lands of the Hul’qumin'um speaking peoples. The dance forms used come from Hip Hop culture and are rooted in the early 70s black and Latinx communities of the South Bronx, NY. This is not the context in which these forms are traditionally practiced.
