Bronx rapper, Sean Elliot, dropped his newest project “3” this month. The extended project spans three tracks, just as the album title suggests.
What I’ve learned from my conversations with Elliot is that he’s semi-versed in numerology. When I asked him if there was a deeper meaning to the project's title he said, “Three represents the family unit. Even though my dad wasn’t present I feel like the energy of 3 was present between me and my mom.”
On ‘Priceless', Elliot raps about his family and childhood:
Momma had 9 kids, 4 baby daddies that ain’t do shit /Trauma turned her to an alcoholic /And the stress made her pick up cigarettes /Man of the house we ain’t have none /TV taught me how to be one /Shout goes out to the reruns/ Good looking uncle Phil for the lessons/ Priceless.
The track features rapper, Ji. The solemnly uplifting record urges listeners to “get it right while living this life.”
One weekend while sitting in a black-owned cafe in the South Bronx, Sean Elliot shared snippets of his album with me. At the time it was a full-length album. But the pandemic changed the course of the project.
When I asked Elliot how he felt about shortening his album due to covid-19, he said “I was reluctant at first. But then I realized that people need the arts in these uncertain times. I want people to know that whenever they feel powerless in a situation they always have the power of choice. So my friends and I made due with what we had. I’m proud of it.”
3 is streaming now on all platforms. You can follow Sean Elliot on social media here.
