COVID 19 AND HAIRLOSS

Have you heard about hair loss due to Covid?

That’s right- a side effect of this virus is hair loss. After talking to a few other stylists, we have noticed significant hair loss on our clients who have contracted Covid.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The hair loss occurs because of overactive inflammation in the body. It’s the inflammation, not the virus itself, that can cause a shift in the hair cycle. As the chemicals in your body ramp up to fight off infection, it can cause hairs to go from their growth phase to their shedding phase prematurely.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hair loss from stressful situations is not unusual. People can experience hair loss after childbirth, major surgery, or an otherwise stressful event in their life. We're now seeing the same results after COVID-19 infections.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hair loss typically begins 2 to 3 months after the initial infection or about 50 to 60 days after your diagnosis. How long it lasts will vary with each person, but it usually takes 6 to 9 months before hair starts to grow back. However, full growth can take up to 18 months, so try your best not to stress about it in the meantime.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The good news is that your hair has the full capacity to grow back on its own. Yes, it helps to keep a healthy diet, since your body needs vitamins and minerals to grow hair, and it’s important to reduce the amount of stress in your life, since stress can cause inflammation and trigger more shedding.
Biotin, the B vitamin that’s often recommended as the go-to for hair loss, can be found in meat, fish, seeds, nuts, and certain vegetables like sweet potatoes and spinach. And according to the National Institutes of Health, one cooked egg provides 10 micrograms of biotin per serving, which is 33% of the recommended daily amount.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, go ahead and have that spinach omelet and maybe try adding a few minutes of meditation to your day. Over time, your hair should slowly but surely grow back.

Thanks so much to @hollerhair for the amazing write up about this little known symptom!

Dandruff or dry scalp is a common problem. But what exactly is the difference and what do we recommend?

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

DANDRUFF- an itchy scalp with large, white/yellow flakes, often stuck to the hair.
CAUSE? Excess sebum production, often associated with an increased presence of fungus

DRY SCALP- an itchy scalp with smaller dry flakes and irritation.
CAUSE? The skin lacks moisture, examples as to why could be sensitivity to Haircare products, change of weather or even over washing the hair.

OUR SOLUTION TO DANDRUFF

If you have a dry, flakey scalp without irritation, or you are not prone to sensitive scalp or allergic reactions, Derma Exfoliate is for you!
This scalp-clearing shampoo deflakes, refines and rebalances the scalp’s natural function. It has mild cleansing and clearing properties and is especially suited to those with oily or dry hair and itchy or dandruff-prone scalps.

OUR SOLUTION TO IRRITATION

Care Derma Sensitive by Keune is especially for those with sensitive skin. Meticulously formulated to reduce the risk of allergic reaction, Care Derma Sensitive calms dry or irritated scalp and alleviates itching. The range consists of a supremely gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and a soothing scalp lotion.

The range is developed to reduce the risk of an allergic reaction and features Scalp-Soothing Complex technology- which includes:

and works over time to prevent further itchiness.
Glycerin, that has deeply hydrating properties and Allantoin, an incredibly healing, soothing ingredient.

BOND FUSION

Unpacking the science behind our favourite in-salon treatment.

If you’re a regular client of ours- chances are you’ve heard us talk about bond fusion before. But what exactly is it, and how does it help your hair?

Here’s where the science comes in.
Everyone’s hair is made up of bonds. These bonds act like bricks, holding keratin within the hair, as well as giving it strength and elasticity.

When hair is coloured, or changed from its natural form (either by perming or relaxing), these bonds holding all the goodness in are broken down, leaving hair weak and damaged.

This is where bond fusion comes to the rescue!
With its fusion system, this treatment repairs and rebuilds all of your hairs broken bonds. It contains proteins identical to those naturally found in the hair, enabling it to not only rebuild, but also preemptively protect the inner strands of the hair from future damage.

What does this mean? Now we can transform your hair, lighter, brighter and better than before- while still keeping it strong and healthy.
Bond fusion has been found to leave hair with 43% less damage!

The best part- it can be used with colour or on its own as a damage-repairing treatment, as well as in a take home product to continue and prolong the work of an in-salon treatment.

The integrity of your hair is our FIRST and FOREMOST concern, as it should be with every salon. Bond Fusion enables us to get the results YOU want in your hair, while keeping the health it needs.

Colour without compromise.

Bond fusion is a revolutionary treatment that keeps your hairs integrity intact whilst colouring! To find out more- ask your stylist next time you’re in the salon!

Toner or Foils?

How to tell which one you really need!

If you’re finding in the weeks before your appointment rolls around that your hair is looking just that bit too brassy- maybe the gorgeous platinum blonde you had is starting to bring out some unwanted tones and colours, or the ends just look DULL- we have a solution!

Toners (which we use alongside a traditional head of foils) are used to cancel out colour we don’t want in the hair. After lightening hair, it’s not always the desired colour. It might need to look a bit creamier, or ashier, depending on your preference.
Getting a toner in between appointments prolongs the life of your original colour, meaning you can stretch your appointment out a few weeks.

But how can you tell if this is the best option for you?
If you want your colour looking lighter- you probably need foils. Toner doesn’t lighten the hair at all, it only balances the colour of your foils. If you want to get rid of brassy-looking ends, or don’t mind a root stretch and want to make your appointments last farther between, a toner is the perfect option for you!

Give us a call or message us to find out more!
