About Ellora

Singer, Actor, & Vocal Coach

Hey, I'm Ellora! (she/her/hers)

I started Singer Second Coaching to help anyone who doesn't feel like they're a "singer first" - so if that's you, DM or email me! I'll help with specific goals to elevate your performance so you can approach your vocal technique lessons and auditions with confidence! :)

I grew up in the suburbs of Dallas, TX where I played keys and sang in a pop/rock cover band with my sister from age 11 to 15. We gigged around town for all kinds of events until I discovered musical theatre and decided to start training my voice more seriously at 14. I had a major back surgery at 16 before I ever decided to pursue music or theatre professionally, and then headed to college at BYU where I got my BFA in Music Dance Theatre. After graduating, I moved to NYC and the rest is history!

I've been lucky enough to perform in 3 Sondheim shows: Into the Woods (Rapunzel), Company (Susan/Choir Girl), and Sweeney Todd (Johanna) as well as perform my own concerts around the world onboard the Oceania Marina.

Come coach with me to elevate your performance and confidence while singing! :)

(Disclaimer: Singer Second Coaching is a safe space for everyone to learn, play, and create art. I went to BYU but do not hold or condone their oppressive views. Any hatred, bigotry, or intolerance will not be permitted or supported in any capacity.)

My Top Picks

Random things I recommend as worthwhile investments :)

It can be intimidating when you start vocal training, so here's a list of things I recommend that you have on hand when you're taking any lessons or a session with me! I'm always looking for more recs so if you find something cool let me know :)

Straws

Straws are excellent for SOVT (semi-occluded vocal tract) exercises! The wider the straw, the easier it feels to sing through it. Same for length- the shorter the straw, the easier to use! You can build up to using thinner and/or longer straws as you build stamina and become familiar with the exercises.

If you want to invest in some straws and be more environmentally friendly, here's a link to some straws specifically designed for singing!

Appcompanist

Appcompanist is more than a great pun- it's an app that is designed to help you get that backing track for vocal warmups/exercises or songs! They offer a few songs and exercises for free, but require a subscription to access the full repertoire. Might be a worthwhile investment if you'd use it often enough!

Belt Box

If you feel too loud, a belt box can give you the piece of mind you need to really let go and wail! This doesn't cancel out all sound, but it can help when you want to reduce the volume for others when you're vocal training.

Also, their site name is hilarious.

Personal Steamer

This is incredible if you need to hydrate and soothe your vocal cords whether it’s winter time, you’re sick, or simply vocally tired. Think about it: all the vocal benefits of a hot shower but portable!

I offer coaching for specific goals, pieces, or auditions, not vocal technique lessons. So if you're looking for a voice instructor to meet with regularly, these are a better fit for you! They're accredited or have equivalent experience to best help you achieve your vocal goals :)
