My work explores femininity by focusing on “feminized” characteristics, behaviors, and imagery. Surreal, dream-like portraiture merge with symbolic narratives to explore vulnerability, strength, acceptance, beauty, and the overall complexities of my life. My own introspections often influence my narratives. My use of symbolism comes from nature, which is personified through the symbolic significance of natural flora and fauna. This aids in the explanation of the narratives which recognizes female characteristics as strength, power, grace, and beauty.
My desire is to explore my personal connection to being a woman while also uplifting and empowering other women. By focusing on personality characteristics, behaviors, stereotypes, and idealizations, I feel I am documenting all facets of womanhood and the feminine spirit. My work encompasses my idea of what it means to be a woman in today’s society, and as I examine the characteristics of my own femininity, I envision a body of work that is meaningful to the female population.
