Things to do/ shop/ eat/ drink in San Miguel de Allende
Recommendation #1
Take a sunrise hot air balloon ride. Don’t think about it, just roll out of bed at 5am and do it. See the sleepy city as it wakes up! A beauty you have to witness. Have breakfast at the beautiful Rosewood hotel after to complete the experience!
Globo in the skyRecommendation #2
Shopping is a national pastime and this city doesn’t disappoint. Many Mexican designers have recently set up shop in this small mountain town, have flourished and become a beacon for tourists and nationals alike. Mixta is one of those special shops that preceded the recent craze. Anna, the owner, curates a beautiful blend of home furnishings, accessories and clothing from all over the world. A must shop. Buy an extra suitcase.
MIXTA is curated blissRecommendation #3
With new restaurants popping up all over San Miguel, there are some that are unique. Bastardo is one of those delicious spots! Made from a series of containers, the family owned restaurant surprises with modern clean and fresh Mexican cuisine. Located on the outskirts of the city, it’s a refreshing respite from the busy center.
Bastardo! What’s in a name?Recommendation #4
Tequila tequila tequila! Mexico is known for the drink but only some become world class. Casa Dragones literally set its roots in San Miguel. Their home is in the original stables of Los Dragones, the queens guard horses, and dates back to 1671. Known for its smooth sipping tequila, Casa Dragones sets itself apart from other tequilas. At their main home (currently being restored and closed as of print date) they offer a tasting menu from top chefs to accompany the tequila offerings. Their other locations around San Miguel include ‘The Smallest Tasting Room in the World!’ located at Doce18 Concept Store. (Another must see shopping destination) Go have a drink! Salud!
