How to throw the bait and rediscover yourself

Stylish Angler by Alessio Lardini

There is always a fishing line to join the angler to his bait. To me, that line is red: love, passion, emotions, thoughts and records leave an indelible sign in my memory.

The Beginning

I want to tell you a story made of tradition and dedication, where the main value is to teach and transmit how to build up the basis of a meaningful life from a simple passion. Because to me growth means learning and understanding.
👴🏻👨🏻👱🏻‍♂️
My uncle was an angler as well as my father, now it’s my turn. By fishing I learned the joy of discover the nature in a respectful way. I always end up in harsh and unspoilt locations and, as in my daily life, I spot and put in place every time the best solution.
Everybody owns the know-how, but bravery is the engine.
🎣
I believe that keeping in mind your roots influence your present and turn the tide of the future.
My first Abu Cardinal reel, passed down by my uncle to my father, it’s now a piece of my vintage gear collection.
I’ve been collecting items since I was a child, with a section dedicated to spinning gear which I usually use to catch trout, pike or black bass. The 40’s refendù Pezon et Michel mod.Telebolic is by far my favorite rod. A beautiful piece made by French artisans perfect for narrow stretches of water and light lines which is combined with a Luxor reel, simplicity turned into perfection.

ABU Cardinal

The Swedish design of 70’s Abu Cardinal fascinates me. And its internal mechanism, even more. “The essential is invisible to the eye” wrote Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in “The Little Prince”.

It’s green, the color of the nature, like leaves and grass. Its symbolism evokes a perfect balance made of love and harmony, it makes me calm and relaxed.

Water

The main character is water, source of life, runs from the spring to the stream, becomes river and splashes into the sea. It’s right there that I throw the bait to rediscover myself.
🥾🎣
In the Musone river, in Marche, close to Cingoli, I wore my boots for the first time. I was 6 years old when, with my father, we were waiting for the “Opening”; years later I still feel the same emotions. As in life, that’s much water under the bridge.
The sea, my sailing passion and the love of the greatest American anglers, the deep hulls “V” shape made to sail every kind of wave of oceans and seas. I grew up sailing up and down for the Adriatic Sea, there was Jugoslavia when we crossed it for the first time, I was just 4 years old. The preys I was striving for were the Seabass, the Sea Bream, the Red Snapper while I was catching Octopuses in apnea with my spear.

Philosophy

To me fishing is not only about technics, it’s a different approach made up of observation, creativity, manual skills, the same qualities I daily apply to my job. I’m a Brand Manager for Lardini, a company who produce and commercialize high-end sartorial apparel. The details are my real passion and the culture of beauty has been passed to me by family which made a life-style around this concept.
That’s why I define my-self a “Stylish Angler”.
🐟💦
I’m not interested in preys as a hunter could be, nor in a medal as an athlete could be, I’m interested in the true essence of the sport. Beside the champs, there’s a bunch of amateur athletes who loves sport and practice it for and with passion. The best part of practicing is about the emotions you feel. There’s not only the Olympic stage, but also a lot of unknown sports ground on the outskirt.
It’s not about the result. Believe, trust yourself, be there, that matter!

TRAVELS

Life is a journey. I travel not to change location, but mentality.

I use to travel along Asia due to my work, Japan represent the emblem of it. From there I get inspired, fashion, life-style, craftsmanship, vintage. Japan culture fascinate me since my first trip, I was 8 years old and we crossed the country with my mum and dad.

Usa and Canada amaze me for their vastness landscapes, a bunch of different natural habitats strike right at the heart. Fishing salmon in the North Pacific Ocean has touched me deeply, the apparent calm of the Columbia’s fiords and the tastiness of the pink flesh of King, Chinook and Cohoo Salmon captured my soul.

I love the adventure and I always choose my Jeep Wrangler to live it. Freedom without limits. The earth, solid and lush, represents the primordial matter, accommodates life and feed it. Get into unspoilt places and feel surrounded by nature. I also have this passion, since the first times that me and my family went to camping around Castel di Sangro to fish into Sangro river. All over the years the manners and the traditions endure, the comfort of the past mixes up with the present technology, Glamping is my formula.

I’m not used to laugh that much and I struggle to show the emotions these adventures arouse me, but my people know how much I feel glad to be there.

Evolution

Nowadays, my knowledge gets me a wider vision and suggested me which way to go. I practice spinning mixing up modern gears and vintage ones.

As rods, I chose Anglo&Company, a small artisan lab on the outskirts of Tokyo where the owner Keijiro welcome me each time with some typical Japanese ceremonies.
Keijiro creates my rods, made specifically for the native stream trout, modern and ultra-light materials join the craftsman experience to get the best combination between tradition and innovation.

I customize every piece I own and I fit it perfectly to my needs.
The Moonwood fish net, the handmade minnows made on balsa and hand painted by Satoshi San are the perfect mix of craftsmanship, quality and uniqueness.

About clothing, I look for a mix of comfort, depending from the needs, and style trying to choose among natural colors and different fits. Vintage clothes mixing up with modern and high-tech fabrics.
I choose timeless Filson’s vest which I match with a denim shirt and a rough corduroy jacket.

As boots, I choose Simms or the more traditional Ocean’s in PVC for streams, Hunter’s is my go-to boot for lakes and Danner’s for dry land use. To deal with the situation and to choose and follow the alternative path is the hardest part but also the one which bring me the most satisfaction. That’s why I’ve never left my path, indeed I turned it into what I wanted it to be.
I choose to live the present with a firm eye on the past. You always have to keep in mind what you were and from where you come from to understand how you get there and where you want to go.
