HOW I ESCAPED FROM THE KINAPNAPPER 'S DEN.

Breeze by that time are often cool,but the weather remained unfriendly even as evening time approached.
I could feel hot sweat dripping off my sleeve as I walked down the hot- rough road.
My slippers must have swore never to be under my foot again.

I was consciously distracted by the pinky-rozy flower that was assembled by the corner of the streets.
Picking flowers as I walk became a hobby ever since I came to live with Uncle Jide.
At the entrance of very apartment is a barrack of blooming flowers, making each apartment look alike.
This made it more difficult for me to locate our street,let alone our apartment.
The apartment number wasn't familiar to me either.

I was exhausted already and I decided to take a quick rest under a huge tree with large branches.
I sat down on a wooden bench that was made available for passer-by.
I was rummaging on how I will get back home especially now, evening was fast approaching.

As unexpected as it was, a black van with tinted windows parked just adjacent to where I was sitted.
It's been past two hours now and not even a single soul had come around. I saw their presence as God's sent and I approached them immediately.

"Eeeem.. excuse me,sir! I'm kind of new here and honestly I can't find my way home." I live with ……. I kept talking on and on while the man I was talking to, looked around suspiciously pretending to be listening to me.
"Hello sir, are you listening to me?" I asked ,tapping him at the shoulder. This time, he didn't respond rather he looked just behind me making me more anxious.
On my quest to know what was at my back, I looked back and that was the last thing I could remember.

I woke up in a dark stuffy room.
I was hit hard at the intersection between my head and my neck that should have made me unconscious for a long time but I was awakened by the noise of the people in that room which I wasn't able to see.
I found a corner and glued myself to it, shriving like a chick been beaten in the rain.
I tried reminiscing what transpired earlier on but I couldn't just fantom it. All I could remember was how I was held like a thief and thrown into the den.
The noise kept increasing at interval as though we were increasing in numbers.
I thought it was a dream not until the Big boss (as they called) and walked in to address us.
He flashed a bright torch light on each of our faces as we closed our eyes due to the reflection.
"Hey! You fools. I won't condone any form of noise and grumbling from you all. You're all going down tomorrow with your head rolling on the floor like a football.
Your throat shall gush out blood like a broken pipe that needs to be fixed." He said this and laughed mischievously with his men.
I wasn't crying, no, I was just gazing looks and accepting reality. It was now I knew that I was been kidnapped.
The big boss was looking scarier than anyone else with his whitish looking beards and an outgrowth positioned at a conspicuous part of his nose.
He came closer to a small boy and squat down touching his beards subsequently.
"I'm certain you kill chicken,right?" The boy didn't respond, rather he increased the intensity of his cry.
"Answer me!" The man scolded.
"Well, your blood will gush out in that manner. Hahahaha….he said as he demonstrated by touching his throat.

"Now, listen up everyone. You are all going down tomorrow but the question is who goes down first?
So, the quiet you are, the better for you. Let's go guys!"
They turn their back and worked out shortly after he instructed one of them to stay on guard.

The cold in the room was freezing at the night hour. They all clustered together to provide warmth and comfort the little ones who were still gnashing.
I was just alone at an end with my forehead placed on my knee.
"Hey ,you! Won't you move over there, or do you want to die before you die?" The guard on duty asked me.

I tried raising my head to look at him but the torchlight flashed directly into my eyes.
I wondered why he was bothered about me. After all, by dawn I'm still going to be killed.
I returned back to my position and tried as much as possible not to shiver or jerk backwards again.

The wind kept rushing in through the numerous windows making a weird noise. The night was long and cold. The cloud barked and showed it's natural light to us.

With the remaining conscience left in him,the guard gave up his blanket and sweater for me.
As he turned to leave,I held him by his hands and asked in a very low voice " why are you concerned about me?"
For the first time, I got to see his face clearly and likewise him.
Grace! He exclaimed in awe.
I closed my mouth in surprise when I realized that he was a classmate in secondary school.
Derack was his name.
I had a lot of questions to ask him like, why, when,how and the likes but I knew I just needed to set my priority aright.
I knew it's time for me to leaverage on his meekness and get away from here.
Derack was a timid and naive nerd.
He was always bullied and mistreated back then in school.
We were not really that close but I was among the few that accepted his personality and maximized every slightest opportunity I had to encourage him.
He was just too good.

There was no point asking him how he became a member of this association because I could totally relate.
No doubt that he was tired of being bullied and needed a backbone and protection. He wanted to belong.
Obviously, people of this nature often end up like this. I didn't care to know whether he had changed or not but I could sense a little bit of goodness in him.

We couldn't converse for long because it will surely amount to noise and become a nuisance to those who were fast asleep.
After so much pleading and melodrama I put up, he consented.
Although, he brought to my notice that what he was about doing was at his own risk and might take his life. And if at all anything should happen to him,I should inform his parents and give them an address to this place to claim his body.
This additional information made me more afraid.

"I'm helping you because you were the only one that gave me life when we were in school. I'm still very much grateful to you although I chose the wrong path. I have taken an oath and a blood convenant. It's called the "Brotherhood ties". We are one and we are each other.
This is a shrine and no one leaves here alive for security purposes.
Any attempt would be so dangerous,but I'm about to do the impossible because of you…."
Before he should finish talking,I gave him a deep hug because I was really touched.
We planned on how we were going to take off when day breaks. He was a trusted and committed fellow and that's why he had the keys to every doors and gates.
I pleaded with him to escape with me,but he emphasized on how impossible it was.
By 4am sharp, we decided to make a move. He gave me a bullet proof to put on and a torch light.
Just as I was about leaving the door, a little boy called me back saying, "Don't leave me please! I want to see my mummy. Mummy, mummy…" This he said repeatedly.

" Grace,let's go. Don't be too sentimental. Save yourself first."Derack warned me.
I kept gazing looks at the little boy in pity, shaking my head in disappointment.
Thereafter, I looked forward to where Derack stood, gave a heavy sigh of relief and went after the door.

We ran for a while but still within the building. The building was like an ancient church with many entrance.
We knew that the little boy must have raised an alarm and created awareness by now, and so we weren't gentle about unlocking the gates.
It made all sorts of noise because of the chains around it.

They ran after us in their numbers. On my attempt to run faster than my legs could carry, I had a dislocation. I began to leap which made Derack slowed down to give me a support.

We were able to unlock all the gaint gates but couldn't lock any back because there was no time.
We took a path by our left and ran for a while until Derack stopped and told me to continue.
He wanted to distract them for a while until he is finally killed so he doesn't die for granted.
I followed another route while he stood at the junction and waved his hands sending a signal to them to run after him.
They were releasing bullets in the process which made me afraid at every gun shot. But, being a skilled person he was, he was able to dodge the bullets.

They stopped chasing after him when they realized that he was alone and that I wasn't with him.
They now know that they were being tricked.
Unfortunately, to Derack's widest imagination, he was hit by a strange bullet. He didn't see it coming and so it took him unwares.

It was too late for them to retreat and continue to run after me.
I was already at the junction.
Now, it was 6am, I could see people and buses making travels. I knew I was now safe. My clothes were torn with enough sustained bruises.
I had a deep cut on my left arm but because of my adrenaline was at it's peak, I didn't feel the pain.

People who saw me in that state must have concluded that I am insane.
With a well folded 1000 note stucked in the pocket of the Jean trouser I was putting on, I boarded a bus back home.
Not to Uncle Jide's house this time, but to my parent's house.
I was admitted into a hospital after I became critically sick.

I would never forget how a long time kindness saved me from the Kidnapper's den.
It's good to be good!
One good turn deserves another.

"They have chosen to accept the fate of the millions who have resigned themselves to a normal life, with normal activities, in the company of normal people, striving for normal goals, at a normal pace, with normal motivation, with a normal education, taught by normal teachers, who give normal grades, and live in normal homes, with normal families, leaving a normal heritage, for their normal children, who bury them in a normal grave. What a normal tragedy. "

What is a brand?

A brand is who or what you are known as/for. When people hear your name, what comes to their mind? That is your brand.

What is branding?

Branding means building yourself to fit into or become that which you want people to recognize you as. Branding involves consistent practice in order to constantly put yourself in the face of your audience as this person or that person.

Let's say you are a writer. How do you brand yourself as such? It's simple. Constantly writing contents and sharing for people's consumption. That way, people get to see you, know you and maybe, like you.

So, when your name pops up anywhere, you wouldn't need to ask people what they think. Your name already speaks volume.

Directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously, you are branding yourself in the hearts of people. The way you dress, the way you talk, the way you carry yourself, the way you react to things, the things you posts, the things you say tells people what kind of person you are.

When people meet or look at you, there is already that first impression they have about you. This could be a positive one or negative one. It's left for you to either prove them right or wrong by showing them who you truly are, and want to be seen as.

Here is what branding does for you.

One branding creates opportunities for you. If you're a teens coach, for instance. You are known for helping teenagers understand and live better lives. Then someone somewhere who has seen, heard and knows how well your brand performs could invite you to speak or teach at his teen's conference.

Who knows? This could translate to a lot of money and even enhance your brand visibility.

If you're a baker for example, and you have been known all over the internet as a good baker who delivers on his promise, then people can always reach out to you if they need baking services or even if they need to learn how to bake. Your brand would be the first that will come to their mind.
