8 ways to spring clean your socials

so you can slay socially selling

Ok so we’re coming into winter and it's not exactly spring cleaning weather but with extra time on our hands, no thanks to Covid 19 now is a good time to spring clean your socials. Especially If your socials have fallen flat because you’ve been busy with work, or your follower count has plateaued, this list will help you get things back in order. ✨

Change your Page Description and Bio.

When was the last time you updated your page description and bio? Chances are you haven't updated them since you first created your accounts. Now is the time to update them! Shannon from the Boutique Social Dc says Your bio is your billboard so it needs to stand out! Here are some pointers for creating a killer bio.

* Explain who you are and what you do
* Change the clickable link (make sure your link works when you click on it)
* Tell a story and add in some humour
* Add emoji’s for some fun
* Use a font changer to change your text in your bio. I use a site called ling to go jam

Change your profile pictures

There’s nothing wrong with that perfect headshot, but why not try switching to something a little more ”real” A simple shot of you out of the biz and having fun.
Like your bio, your profile picture is the first thing people see so make it a photo they will remember.

Update your Social Strategy

If you want to make an impact on social media then you will need a social media strategy, not just one that covers what platforms you will be on and what your goals are, but specific tools and tactics you will use to meet these goals. If you do have a social media strategy, I would revisit your social media strategy over the next few weeks due to the Coronavirus.

* Have you met your previous social media goals?
* Do you need to update your branding?
* Dive deep into your insight and see what's working and what's not.
* How are you going to stay connected with your followers?

What are your competitors doing?
If your posting has come repetitive, it might be a good idea to look at what your competitors are doing. Spend a day looking over your industry and seeing what changes have occurred the past few months. Are there topics you should be posting about? What could be your point of difference? How are you using your platforms to attract new customers? Or it might be time to update your photos or graphics.

Don't be afraid to hit the unfollow button

Social media is an incredible place to make connections and learn from others. But, it’s not the place to pay for followers or play the follow/unfollow game. When you want to give your socials a spring clean don't be afraid to unfollow those who no longer serve a purpose for you.

Find new accounts to follow, the kind that spark joy

So, you just unfollowed a handful of people. Now what? Well, try finding new accounts to follow that are going to make you want to show up on social media! Find those who inspire, educate and entertain. I make it my goal to find five new accounts to interact with. I search through hashtags and look for accounts that are going to make my social media experience more positive. I think social media can be negative so it's nice to follow those who make you feel inspired.

Analyze the platforms you’re on

You might believe it's a great idea to be on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Tik Tok but being on different platforms can be overwhelming. I recommend being on a 2 - 3 platforms. The truth is you don't need to be on multiple of platforms to make an impact. Remember, these platforms are continuously changing and it’s important to stay ahead of the game.

Update your hashtags
Hashtags have a huge impact on how many people see your content, especially on Instagram. I update my list monthly, but if you haven’t done so in a while, you might want to start. Though it takes time, finding new hashtags to use is absolutely worth it.
My tip - When you find new hashtags go and interact with the accounts who are your ideal customer.

I hope you’ve found these these spring clean tips helpful. We’re all in this together x

How to take the stress off managing your channels efficiently

Do you find it difficult to manage your social media channels efficiently? ⁣

I get it, I've been there too. ⁣

As a business owner, you're already wearing so many hats. It can be challenging trying to keep up with the day to day tasks. The more work you take on, the more organised you need to be.⁣

You can't post on a whim anymore, it will stress you out more. Don't worry, I’ve been there too, and it is the reason why I established a routine that suited me so that I could reduce my anxiety levels, and be more efficient with my time on social media. ⁣

Establish a routine that suits YOU! I’ll let you in on a little secret of mine... I start my day at 5 am, and as soon as I open my eyes I’m on social media. I know that their others out there that would disagree with this routine. However, it suits me. So you do YOU! ⁣

📝 Pre-plan your content. I do mine every Sunday for all 4 businesses I manage. ⁣

⏲️ Set alarms and timers. I'm that person that has alarms going off at all times of the day with labels. Why? Because I forget, plain and simple. When an alarm goes off I know what I need to be doing, and I do it with intent.⁣

🖥 Set up an auto-reply on your Facebook business page so that you can swiftly deal with inquiries. That way, the person who has contacted you, knows you have received their inquiry and it will be dealt with shortly. This buys you time to write a thoughtful reply when you have time. For example..... We endeavour to be responsive as possible so please allow 24hrs - 48hrs to receive a response. You could include common questions as well. Then set aside a time every day to respond to your DMS and complete it within a time frame. ⁣

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed with all the tasks that you need to? I did until I started writing a to-do list. This eliminated that overwhelming feeling of 🤯 I have so much to do! Now I plan my tasks evenly across the week and tick each one off after I have completed it. It's so satisfying!!! ⁣

Once you establish a routine and pre-plan your days, your life will be a lot easier and a lot less stressful.

How to write compelling captions

And stop your audience in their tracks

Did you know the more time a reader spends reading your caption and engaging with your post the better it will rank in the Instagram algorithms? ⁣

With enough engagement, your post can end up on the Explore Page, bringing more eyeballs to your posts than ever before 👀⁣

That’s why captions are the gateway to building stronger relationships with your audience. ⁣

🧐 So how do you write a compelling caption that stops your audience in their tracks? ⁣

Well here are my tops tips on how to write killer captions and stop your audience in their tracks⁣

Tip 1️⃣ Write a killer first line. You need to make that first sentence count and capture their attention or they will keep scrolling. ⁣

- Hit them with a stat (my fav)⁣
- Share an exclusive offer they don't want to miss⁣

Tip 2️⃣ Use a strong call to action.⁣
Using phrases like “register now”, “ tap to shop”, or “click more” help your audience know what to do next. If you don’t tell them exactly what they need to do next they will move on and scroll to the next posts. Bonus tip... create a sense of urgency so they get serious FOMO.⁣

Tip 3️⃣ Be Authentic. Your Instagram captions should be thoughtful and strategic. Speak to your followers like you would speak to a friend. Your followers are your brands closest friend, so talk to them like they are!⁣

Tip 4️⃣ Add value. Offer your tips, expert advice, and even humour. Adding value to your posts will encourage your followers to engage more by sharing or commenting. ⁣

Tip 6️⃣ Use emoji’s! Some businesses believe that using emoji’s can have a tacky approach and I can completely understand that. However, emoji’s can actually boost your engagement. Did you know emojis in a Facebook post can increase the number of likes by 57% and the number of comments and shares by 33%. Emojis animate your captions, they draw attention and make your posts stand out. ⁣

What are your biggest struggles when creating captions?

What we do

The Social Quest

👋🏻 Hi, I’m Shar, owner and operator of The Social Quest. I love fish n chips, a good drop of NZ Sauvignon Blanc, Photography, Horse Racing and I spend too much time listening to True Crime Podcasts.

I live in Warrnambool, Victoria. Possibly the coldest and windiest place on earth.

For the past 5 years, I’ve been running a boutique social media manager business and raising our 3 girls, while my hubby hustles in the ever-demanding horse racing industry.

I’m passionate about everything I do, especially when it comes to photography and our 3 girls. You could say that's when I found my way into the online community. Now that I know what it takes to become successful in the world of social media, I want nothing more than to see your business thrive and succeed. #hustle

I’m a go-getter who always goes above and beyond my duties, whilst my hubby is in the background yelling, you don’t need to do that 🙄 I hate to say it, he’s usually right!

Stay tuned, I’ll be building a positive online social media presence for businesses around Warrnambool and surrounds

🤓 Discover which posts get the most engagement and why was it a hit? That way, you can create more content like it.

⏰ Based on your audience, find out the best time of day to post. Schedule your post for those times so you can boost your engagement. For me, it's at 8 pm on a Monday and Tuesday night. My followers might be sitting on the couch responding back to their comments, @ mentions and direct messages.

👀 Reach tells you the number of unique accounts that have seen your post. It's unlikely that you will reach all your followers but try to maximize this metric to increase brand awareness.

✈️ That little paper plane is a gem. It tells you the number of times your post has been shared. This is an important one! Shares tell you that the content your producing is actually worth sharing!!! Shares increase your brand awareness. The more your followers share, the more your brand gets seen!

🔖 Saved is the number of unique accounts that have saved your post. ⚠️ It’s the new likes! If your followers are saving your content, then you know you're on the right track.

The misconceptions of a social media manager

The truth behind the myths

Some would think it would be a dream job to play on Facebook & Instagram all day. Who wouldn't love sharing pictures, watching stories and commenting on threads?

Hold up 🤚🏼 Despite what people may think, the life of a social media manager involves much more than messing around on #fb and #thegram The best social media managers have a finely tuned skill set that's taken time and a lot of work to nail!

Let's take a look at some of the misconceptions of a social media manager and the truth behind these myths.

1 ~ Social media managers hang out on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter all day.
🙅‍♀️🏼 Uh no! Nothing could be further from the truth. Social media managers come up with the images, quotes and industry-related news but in the scheme of things, that's only a small part of it. Social media managers have their work cut out for them. Data, data, data, it's all about the data! Social media managers regularly check insights to see when your audience is online and when you should be scheduling posts. Not to mention, keeping an eye on the analytics to see which posts were popular so they can tweak your strategy.

2 ~ It’s a low-pressure job 🤯
Let's consider how stressful social media can be for personal use and multiply that by 10. When you're a social media manager, you've got an entire brands image in your hands. It’s a high pressure position that demands results and a constantly evolving campaign strategy. We live in a fast paced world where platforms change and strategies change on a constant basis. The best social media managers stay ahead of the curve and on top of the trends.

3 ~ Social media management only takes a couple hours a week 🤥
This is the biggest fallacy of them all. There are many social media experts touting a 4hr work week with amazing results. But, most social media managers know that's not the case. Social media management can be a hard gig and it does require strategy, consistency, creativity and some serious time.
Hence why my screen time is 9 + hours a day. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m that person #liveandbreathesocialmedia

4 ~ Posting for the sake of posting because anything is better than nothing
📵 Social media done wrong can do more damage to a brand than not having a social media presence at all. Like I have said previously, don’t post for the sake of posting! It doesn't matter if you don't post on the grid for 3 days. However, if you’re concerned about not posting, as an alternative, you can continue to post through your stories and always remember to keep engaging with your audience!!!

As you can see, social media management isn't straight forward. With some of these myths busted, you can now start promoting your business like a #bossbabe
