When I was about to start my freelance writing business, I had lots of questions to ask – but, there was no one to provide the guidance I needed.

“How much should I charge per word?” “How do I land my first gig?” “Where do I pitch to a client?” "How do I avoid content mills?"

"What do I do if Upwork doesn't approve me?" "How do I position myself?" "How do I transition from being a freelance writer to a copywriter?" "Do I charge per hour, project or per word?" These, amongst others, were the questions I wanted answers to. I read tons of blog posts...Downloaded every ebook I could lay my hands on. And yet, they were all generalized info. Nothing more!

To make matters worse, 99.9999% of them insisted that I must have a website before I could land my first freelance writing gig. Alas, many of them forgot the power of social media. 😁

Some of them even suggested working for free. If only I knew then that I could earn money without offering pro bono services. 🤦🏿‍♀️😢

None of them answered the burning questions I wanted answers to. I needed someone to hold my hands and show me the way. 😢😢

And that’s why I became a freelance writing & copywriting coach. Dabbling into the freelance world can be extremely confusing, especially if there’s no one to help you find your way.

Little did I know that I was in for a massive disappointment. Most of the blogs, authority figures and books I read had generalized info...The same thing I read everywhere. To make matters worse, everyone had differing opinions. I WAS CONFUSED! There was no one to answer the burning questions I had...No one to hold my hands and guide me.

And so, I entered the confusing world of freelancing writing and boy, was it bleak and despairing. I made stupid and costly mistakes that could have been avoided. I thought I needed to get a website before I could start. Some recommended starting with content mills or working for free. Others suggested checking for jobs on Craiglist. Many recommended signing up on Upwork – which I did many times than I could count but was never accepted.

I was wallowing in debts and depression. I was losing money. I was overwhelmed with the shitty-paying jobs I could lay my hands on. I didn’t know how to land high-paying clients. In fact, I thought they were non-existent. I felt to rather be stuck with or manage low-paying jobs than manage the unicorn/non-existent better-paying clients.

I'm an avid book reader and lover. It's no surprise that they say, "books take you to places you've never been to!" Have you ever read Harlequin novels or Mills & Boon and you can "literally" visualize the sensual and sinfully gorgeous man described in the novel? 😁😁
