The Hood Doula Store
A lot of people ask me, “how can I support you if I’m not pregnant?” And this is how! I never ever thought I would ever be a business owner of any sort, but this passion project turned side hustle has brought me fulfillment and reignited so many of my creativities I shut down for years. But please don’t think you HAVE to shop to support me! You can repost/share posts, tell your friends/family/pregnant people you know about me or just support the hood doulas that you know! Regardless, if you want some, come get this DRIP 💧

Girlfriend Collective is one of my favorite brands of all time. They specialize in making sustainable activewear and athleisure (which is practically my uniform when I’m doing doula work or anything for that matter). It’s really important to me that companies I shop from aren’t only comfortable and stylish but also treating their workers right and using materials that don’t harm Mother Earth. GF uses recycled water bottles in their fabric to make beautiful items that have lasted me YEARS and I want to share my love with you! 💋 happy shopping!
About
the hood needs doulas
Hi! My name is Cassie and I am a birth doula based in New Jersey. Born and raised in Lakeland, FL, I moved to Los Angeles after college to pursue a masters in Global Medicine from USC. It was on a trip to Uganda in my program that my obsession with womb wellness and birth support began. After becoming a doula in 2019, my purpose grabbed me by the neck and took me on the whirlwind path I’m on now.
I work primarily with womxn in the community who might not have ever considered a doula or thought they weren’t for them before they met me. I’m here to change that narrative!
As someone who has love for all hoods (and the hood I’m originally from, shout out 863!) I know how important it is for all womxn/folks to have access to doulas. Especially black women. We are dying at the hands of a racist medical system and there is no reason we should be.
I call myself “the hood doula” because I think many people in the hood feel doulas aren’t for them. Many of us get the short end of the stick in the world of education about our own bodies. We are often forced to accept treatment we don’t deserve and convinced to do things we might not have wanted when we walked into the birth space all because our voices are suppressed. It’s not fair! My life’s purpose is to change that, and to bridge the gaps/divides between doulas, doctors, midwives, nurses, PAs, lactation consultants, childbirth educators... basically all the key players in the birth space.
I am passionate about womb wellness, not right before or after birth but from youth to sage hood. My hope is to be able to doula you through all the stages of your womb life! Check out the links here to see ways we can connect. I’m here for you!
The Hood Reads
“Cass, what are you reading?”
As a person with a womb, someone supporting a person with a womb or someone who came out of a womb reading is important! Here’s some of my favorite womb-related reading (this will be updated periodically)
Herbal Healing for Women - Rosemary Gladstar
This is one of my favorite books. An encyclopedia of herbs, how and when to use them, and where to find them (even if you have to buy them online). It’s a simple and easy read that has changed my life! Lmk how you like it!
Period Repair Manual - Laura Briden, ND
This is a dope book to really learn about hormones and how to find natural ways to balance them. Be sure to take anything you read here to your primary care doctor to ensure it’s safest for your body, but it was very insightful and taught me a lot of things I never knew. Lmk what you think!
Killing the Black Body - Dorothy Roberts
I won’t lie to y’all. This is a heavy read. It took me months to read this because it was very deep and traumatic. But it’s imperative we know our history and America’s history of abuse and oppression of black and POC bodies in the medical system. Take your time with this one.
It Takes a Village
If you feel led to donate to helping me increase access to doula services for those who need it the most, please donate! Nothing is too big or small. Your prayers are just as accepted. Thank you!
