My Favorite Books
For homeschool moms ❤️
Charlotte Mason’s Home Education
I’m only halfway through this book, but what I have read has been well-worth the time and effort. Reading her words directly have helped me learn her heart behind the method she presented, and have taught me that what she present went far beyond the classroom to the heart of children and parents.
For the Children’s Sake
I read this as a new homeschool mom and I recommend it to all new homeschooling moms. Susan Schaeffer-Macaulay offers a beautiful explanation of a Charlotte Mason education, as well as why this method of education stands out.
If you’re looking for a quick start for learning the CM method, this would be a good place to start.
Mother Culture
While this book does not strictly address homeschooling, some homeschooling methods and encouragement are found within. If I had to pick a book for all mothers to read on encouragement, this would certainly be it. Karen Andreola lovingly calls mothers to do their duty to their family , while reminding them to lean on the Holy Spirit with a humble heart. This book was a balm during a season that I felt run down and tired.
Teaching from Rest
This is a book I revisit often, and I recommend to all my friends. Sarah Mackenzie does a wonderful job of quieting the question of, “are we doing enough?” but still encouraging moms to find rhythms to still do their lessons.
“God is not demanding I be successful on my own. He’s calling me to be faithful and to trust him for the results, which may not look like what I was expecting. Success in God’s eyes may not always look like the success we were seeking, but if we are faithful we will know his peace and rest in our studies and efforts. What more success could we want?”
Read Aloud Family
This book answers the question, “what is a living book?” Not only that, but Sarah encourages families to develop habits of reading together, and gives ideas on how to make reading aloud a priority. If you’re looking for book recommendations, or inspiration for helping kids fall in love with reading, this is a wonderful book to read.
