About

Health, wellbeing, disability, mental health and weight loss

Hi, I’m Kirsty Brutnell. Welcome to my blog!

I’m a health, wellbeing, weight loss, mental health and disability enthusiast who loves to cook the most healthy and wholesome meals for myself and my Husband. I started this journey after becoming physically disabled due to syringomyelia, I didn't gain lbs I gained stones and fast, I went from 10stone to almost 20stone in a year, this was due to lack of mobility and steroid injections for pain. After losing 10 stone our hope of a family is closer than ever, living with PCOS and physical disabilities make losing weight harder, but not impossible. I am doing this for me and my future family. Follow along for inspiring recipes and tips to live a healthier lifestyle! You can also find me on Facebook and Instagram ☺

My Top Picks

Just a few of my top recommendations for my lovely followers.

I personally find losing weight incredibly easy while following the slimming world plan even with PCOS, while not feeling like a diet. Are you the kinda person that stops and starts dieting then you need to tell yourself this, stop telling yourself that you are dieting and use I am choosing to live a healthy lifestyle.

Once you decide this is it, no more back and forth, struggling every few months to get that favourite pair of jeans on, frustrated with body confidence then set a goal and stay consistent, results do not happen overnight and always remember that weight loss is 80% of what you eat and 20% in the gym.

So we lose it in the kitchen and tone it in the gym ☺.

There is also plenty of healthy eating options out there, find one and stick to it.

Below are a few links to some of my favourite low calorie/fat-free options along with other weight loss support programs.

Whatever you do, do not give up on the version of you that you dream of being.

Recommendation #1 Join a weight loss support group

Statistics show that you are more likely to lose weight and keep it off when you are part of a weight loss group like slimming world, you may feel scared at first but I can assure you that it's just your mind freaking out (I even thought to myself the first time I went into my slimming world group that I was too fat to join). So we all have that fear yet we need the help and support and you will find that everyone in your chosen group is all there for the same reason as you, to lose weight, gain confidence while meeting some amazing people along the way. You do not have to go to a group if you didn't want to as you can also do slimming world online.

You are not restricted to calorie counting or adding up points, it is a simple three-step plan, made up of free foods, speed foods, syns (all those lovely treats we love) also healthy extras including calcium and fibre. It is a flexible plan that many follow and lose weight successfully.

Recommendation #2 Flavour your food

Another reason why it's easy to give up dieting when you feel like you are eating plain boring meals that always seem to be the same or similar, let's face it salad day in day out, doesn't give you many options or satisfaction after eating, then that could lead to munching on crisps, chocolate and all the other lovely treats, so you stuff your face and feel full and satisfied for now but then next time you weigh yourself you beat yourself up for gaining when in reality you binge ate, and are facing the scales and I am sure that feeling of guilt sets in.

Many pre-mixed seasonings/pre-made sauces contain high levels of sugar which in turn will increase weight over time. Do not fear, some companies have specifically put the effort in the reduce the amount of sugar, and calories making it easier to eat amazing tasting food that will leave you wanting more. Spicentice is one of my favourites, check them out and see the amazing range they have.

Recommendation #3 Allow flexibility and treats

Who else feels like they are missing out when dieting?
I know I have and I have tried and failed at many diets, healthy lifestyle choices have been the only way I have lost weight (a whopping 10stone may I add) and kept it off.

Well if you are like me and love a biscuit with a cuppa and think you can't, then think again.

The skinny food and co company have a hugh range of zero calories or low-calorie treats. From ice cream syrups, coffee creamers, jams, sauces, cookies the list goes on, so definitely go check them out ☺
