About

I was today years old when…

A random collection of things I never knew until recently. From life hacks to motherhood - they’re all new to me.
And how wonderful to know that there is always more to know.

Post Partum hair loss is very real and bloody scary.

Okay so I’ve heard of this before - but did I think I would be in the shower sticking handfuls of hair on the wall? (my husband loves this btw)
No! Cue funeral music.
It’s a disconcerting event. So much so that I’ve started avoiding a good ole shampoo on the regular, let alone comb my hair, lest I writhe in agony over my scattered mane.

Why it happens

Hormones. As per usual, hormones are the culprits.
Basically during pregnancy, increased estrogen levels cause your hair to remain in the growth phase.
You’ll have thick, luscious and healthy feeling hair as very little of it falls out.

With the advent of your LO comes a major drop in estrogen though, which leads to hair entering the rest phase. All those cute follicles end up on the floor.
