Madeline Scalzi
The Rental Apartment Queen
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by.
A 25-year-old NYC resident; I’m a marketing pro by day and an aspiring interior decorator
by night(s) (and weekends!).
Having moved over 15 times since 2015, you could say I know a little something about short-term living in a rented space. I love using my platform to showcase daily life in NYC and help other small-space renters make a home as unique as they are— while sticking to a tight budget of course! Follow along as I turn my 600sqft Queens apartment in to a city oasis.

My Top HM Home Picks
Everything you have to have this spring!
Yes to all things natural wood
Cutting boards are a classic staple piece you will be able to use and style season after season. I love the natural wood finish and Art Deco corners on this one. And it’s only $18!
A touch of trendy, but also a total classic
I didn’t buy this black rattan box while I was shopping and have regretted it every day since. Need I say less? A great staple for holding little trinkets or remotes you don’t want lying around.
I will speak to the manager for these
The caption says it all! This was an instant purchase. The quality is excellent and the emerald green + gold combination is everything to me. (If you aren’t a green fan though they also come in black and white)
I will never not love gold and glass frames
I have at least 5 of these and love them all. The options are endless for what you can put in them, from pressed flowers, to ticket stubs, and personal notes from friends, they are so easy to style in any space.
Trendiest item this season
I have seen this piece EVERYWHERE this season and it’s obvious why. It’s cute as heck and goes with everything. I especially love how @citychicdecor (on IG) styles her’s as a necklace holder in her small city space.
Give me all the rattan storage
This cute little basket comes in two different accent colors (camel and black) and is just the perfect rattan storage accent for spring
More glass and gold, just act surprised
So easy to use on a mantle, bookshelf or dresser! Comes in two different heights and can be styled with different colored candles depending on the season.
Classic black trim is a must have
Surprisingly cozy, and a great price for a standard piece you will use forever! 10/10 would recommend.
