Once upon a time there lived a Brahmin benama Sidi Mantra which had very famous powers. Sanghyang Widya or Batara Guru gave a gift of treasure and a beautiful wife. After several years of marriage, they got a boy named Manik Angkeran.
Manik Angkeran grew into a handsome and clever young man, but he liked to gamble. He often lost and sorted out the assets of his parents. Because it could not pay the debt, Manik Angkeran asked for help for something. Sidi Mantra fasted and prayed for the help of the gods. Suddenly he heard the voice, “Hi, Sidi Mantra, in the crater of Mount Agung there is a treasure trove that the dragon is Besukih Dragon. Go there and ask him that you want a little treasure.”
Sidi Mantra went to Gunung Agung by overcoming all obstacles. Arriving there, he sat cross-legged. As he rang the bell he read a spell and called the name of the Besukih Dragon. Not long after that the Dragon came out. After hearing the intention of the arrival of Sidi Mantra, Naga Besukih gave him gold and diamonds. After thanking the Dragon, Sidi Mantra excused himself. All the goods he got given to Manik Angkeran in the hope he would not gamble anymore. It ran out very quickly. Again Manik Angkeran asked for help. Sidi Mantra was disappointed and denied.
After that, Manik Angkeran did not remain silent. He found out from where his father got the treasure. Not long after that, Manik Angkeran knew that the treasure was obtained from Mount Agung. Manik Angkeran knew to get there he had to read a spell but he never learned about prayers and spells. So, he just brought a bell that was stolen from his father when his father was sleeping.
After arriving at the crater of Mount Agung, Manik Angkeran sounded his gentle. He was scared when he saw Dragon Besukih. After the dragon heard the intention of the arrival of Manik Angkeran, he said, “I’ll give you the treasure you asked for, but you have to promise to change your behavior. Do not gamble anymore. Remember the law of karma.”
Manik Angkeran was amazed to see the gold, diamonds, and gems in front of him. Then the evil intentioned in his heart. Due to want more treasure, then he cut the tail of Dragon Besukih when Dragon returned to the nest. Manik Angkeran immediately escaped in fear. But because of the miracle of the Dragon, when the traces of Manik Angkeran was licked by the dragon, he burned it to ashes.
Seeing the death of his son, Sidi Mantra became very sad. He immediately sought the Naga Besukih and begged his son to live again. Besukih Dragon grant the request with the condition Sidi Mantra want to restore the tail of Besukih Dragon as normal. Then with the magic, Sidi Mantra made the Dragon’s tail back to normal. After Manik Angkeran was alive, he apologized and promised not to repeat it again. Sidi Mantra knew that his son was converted but he decided not to live together again.
“You have to start a new life,” Sidi Mantra said. In the blink of an eye he vanished. In the place where he stood arose a source of water that grew increasingly large to become the sea. With supernatural powers, Sidi Mantra made a line that lavished him with his son. This story that line up the origin of the strait of Bali, now the place became the Bali strait that separates the island of Java with the island of Bali.

Dahulu kala ada seorang Brahmana benama Sidi Mantra yang memiliki kekuatan yang sangat terkenal. Sanghyang Widya memberi Sidi mantra hadiah berupa harta karun dan istri yang cantik. Mereka mendapatkan seorang anak laki-laki bernama Manik Angkeran setelah beberapa tahun menikah.
Manik Angkeran tumbuh menjadi pemuda tampan dan pintar, namun ia suka berjudi. Ia sering kehilangan dan menghabiskan aset orang tuanya. Karena Manik Angkeran tidak bisa membayar hutang, ia pun meminta bantuan. Sidi Mantra berdoa dan berpuasa untuk meminta pertolongan para dewa. Tiba-tiba dia mendengar suara, “Hai, Sidi Mantra, di kawah Gunung Agung ada harta karun dari naga yaitu Naga Besukih. Pergilah ke sana dan tanyakan padanya bahwa kamu menginginkan sedikit harta.”
Sidi Mantra pergi ke Gunung Agung dengan mengatasi semua rintangan. Sesampainya di sana, ia duduk dengan bersila. Dia membaca sebuah mantra dan memanggil nama Naga Besukih sambil membunyikan bel. Tidak lama kemudian Naga keluar. Setelah mendengar niat kedatangan Sidi Mantra, Naga Besukih memberinya emas dan berlian. Setelah berterima kasih, Sidi Mantra akhirnya kembali. Semua yang ia dapatkan diberikan kepada Manik Angkeran dengan harapan dia tidak akan berjudi lagi. Harta tersebut habis sangat cepat. Lagi Manik Angkeran meminta bantuan. Sidi Mantra kecewa dan merasa dikhianati.
Setelah itu, Manik Angkeran tidak tinggal diam. Dia ingin tahu ayahnya mendapatkan harta karun itu. Tak lama kemudian, Manik Angkeran tahu bahwa harta karun itu didapat dari Gunung Agung. Manik Angkeran tahu ke sana dia harus membaca mantra tapi dia tidak pernah belajar tentang doa dan mantra. Akhirnya dia hanya membawa bel yang ia ambil saat ayahnya sedang tidur.
Setelah sampai di kawah Gunung Agung, Manik Angkeran takut saat melihat Naga Besukih. Lalu sang naga berkata “Saya akan memberimu harta yang kau minta, tapi kau harus berjanji untuk mengubah perilakumu. Jangan berjudi lagi. Ingat hukum karma.”, setelah ia mengetahui niat Manik Angkeran datang.
Manik Angkeran takjub melihat emas, berlian, dan permata di depannya. Lalu iblis bermaksud di dalam hatinya. Karena menginginkan lebih banyak harta karun, maka ia memotong ekor Naga Besukih saat Naga kembali ke sarangnya. Manik Angkeran langsung luput ketakutan. Tapi karena keajaiban Naga, saat jejak Manik Angkeran dijilat naga, dia membakarnya menjadi abu.
Melihat kematian anaknya, Sidi Mantra menjadi sangat sedih. Ia langsung mencari Naga Besukih dan memohon anaknya untuk hidup kembali. Naga Besukih mengabulkan permintaannya dengan syarat Sidi Mantra dapat mengembalikan ekor Naga Besukih seperti dulu. Lalu dengan sihirnya, Sidi Mantra membuat ekor Naga kembali normal. Setelah Manik Angkeran hidup, dia meminta maaf dan berjanji untuk tidak mengulanginya lagi. Sidi Mantra tahu bahwa anaknya telah bertobat tapi dia memutuskan untuk tidak hidup bersama lagi.
“Kau harus memulai hidup baru,” kata Sidi Mantra. Dalam sekejap mata ia lenyap. Di tempat ia berdiri muncul sumber air yang semakin besar dan menjadi laut. Dengan kekuatan supernatural, Sidi Mantra membuat garis yang membatasi dia dengan anaknya. Berdasarkan cerita ini, kini tempat itu menjadi selat Bali yang memisahkan pulau Jawa dengan pulau Bali.

He often lost, so he had staked his parents’ wealth, even in debt to someone else. Because they could not pay the debt, Manik Angkeran’s father asking for help to do something.
Complication
Sidi Mantra prayed to the God. Suddenly he heard a voice, “Hi, Sidi Mantra, in the10crater of Mount Agung there is a treasure guarded by a dragon, the Dragon named Basuki. Go there and ask that he would give a little fortune”. Sidi Mantra went to Mount Agung to overcome all of the problems. Arriving at the edge of Mount Agung, he sat cross-legged. As he rang the genta and called the name of Naga Basuki. In a few moments the Naga Basuki was out. After hearing the purpose of Sidi Mantra, Naga Basuki gave him gold and diamonds. After saying thank you, Sidi Mantra went home. He gave all of the gold and diamonds to Manik Angkeran in hopes he would not gamble anymore. Of course not long after, the treasure was gone for a bet. Manik Angkeran once again enlist the help of his father. Sidi Mantra of course refused to help his son.
27Manik Angkeran heard from his friends that the gold and diamonds was obtained from Mount Agung. Manik Angkeran knew to get there he had to cast a spell, but he never learned about prayer and mantra. So, he just took the genta that was stolen from his father while he slept. As he arrived at the crater of Mount Agung, Manik Angkeran rang his “genta”. What a fright he saw Naga Basuki. Having heard the purpose of Manik Angkeran, he said, “I will give you treasures that asked for, but you must promise to change your behavior. Do not gamble anymore. Remember the law of karma”. Manik Angkeran stunned to see the gold, diamonds, and jewels in front of him. Suddenly there was malice in his heart that arised. Because he want to get more possessions, he cut the nail of Naga Basuki when he returned to the hive. Manik Angkeran immediately ran away and not overtaken by the Dragon. But because the miracle of the Dragon, Manik Angkeran burned to ashes during the dragon licked his tracks.
Resolution
As he heard the death of his son, Sidi Mantra was grief and speechless. Soon he33visited Naga Basuki and begged his son to be revived. The Dragon accepted it, otherwise, its tail origin can return to normal. With his power, Sidi Mantra could restore the dragon’s tail. After Manik Angkeran turned a life, he apologized and promised to be a good person. Sidi Mantra knew that his son had repented, but he also understood that they were no longer able to live together. “You have to start a new life but not here,” he said. In the blink of an eye he was gone. In the place where he stood there was a water source that grew larger that it became the ocean. With his cane, Sidi Mantra made a line that separated him with his son. Now the place is known as the line which is separating Java and Bali islands.: figure
