A little about me

Hi, I’m Kirstie💕

Uncommon Teaching was born out of a love for Teaching in an Uncommon Way! What does that look like? Uncommon is best defined as “out of the ordinary” & that looks like, as educators, we fight for out of the ordinary teaching!

I have found that “structured literacy” + “multimodal” teaching are the uncommon / out of the ordinary ways of teaching! Why? Because research shows teaching curricula with explicit, systematic, intensive + evidence-based multisensory {visual, kinesthetic, tactile & auditory} can change a student’s trajectory of his/ her learning.

I am on a journey to share all things multisensory + structured literacy in the classroom! Join me as we discuss some of my favorite topics like orthography, phonology, morphology, multisensory math, multisensory spelling, listening + reading comprehension!
