about me!

small batch ceramicist based in SD california

Hello! My name is Shelby, I am 21 years old and love to play with mud, lol. In all seriousness clay is a huge passion of mine. When I was little and even now i’ve always loved art and over the years have explored almost every medium.

Backstory:

My dad is an artist and always had clients who were into clay and I got introduced to clay when i was really young but never got to make anything except paint bisque.

Now fast forward to 2017… I wanted to take a clay class at a studio local to me, the class went well and I was hooked. After that I never really got to do ceramics again because, I was building my portfolio to become a tattoo apprentice and get into art school for illustration for the next 2 and a half years in high school!! A series of unfortunate events (really just me being bad at school due to my adhd) I didn’t get accepted to art school because of my GPA.

In spring of 2019 i graduated high school and in the fall I decided to go to community college where I only enrolled in art classes to get my GPA up to be able to go to art school. But… I took ceramics and kind of checked out of all my other classes. I really wanted to be there 100% of the time and rekindled my love for clay.

2020… I’m in ceramics 2 and it’s about a month into the class and the pandemic hit. My class was cancelled my 35 inch sculpture went to the garbage can and I wasn’t in school at all. I decided to start making some things at home and it went okay. My carpeted apartment didn’t really enjoy the clay… lol. The next year was a blur and I changed mediums to maintain income during the pandemic. Then, I became a essential worker at a grocery store because my funds were heavily limited and I lost all time for art. It was very depressing and creatively I had zero ambition at the end of the day.

2021, Still not in school and just trying to figure out different jobs, and trying to find the time for my art. Last year was such a pivotal year for me. Health scares and finding so much more about myself. I started trying to do clay again and found a studio at the end of the year.

2022, Now I’m in such a good place. I know (kinda) what I want for my future and have been constantly making ceramics! I plan on launching a website soon and selling my goodies to you. My ultimate goal is to be able to buy a nice pottery wheel for myself and maybe a little shed so I can make a studio!!!
