Meet Aesthetician Emily

My Skin Journey

Hello, my name is 𝓔𝓶𝓲𝓵𝔂

I started my journey as an ✿ aesthetician
to extend my passion and knowledge of improving skin health, conditions + the mental state of others.

At a younger age— I was always told my skin was beautiful, acne free and healthy. One of my oldest friend began to look into skincare and inspired me to curate my own.

I strived to learn more about skincare ingredients, the benefits and how it can affect different skin types. This allowed me to extend my knowledge to others and pushed me to be the go-to skin person for everyone in my family.

Originally I was all about natural skincare, no procedures, live and love with what you are born with BUT that changed when I started getting adult acne in my early 20s.

The basic OTC + Korean skincare combo was simply not enough. It did little to nothing with my acne— in fact it made it WORST.

I started to have severe PIH + acne that would stay on my skin for months as cystic, inflamed and non-inflamed acne… I couldn’t stand it and decided to see a dermatologist who within a 10 minute consultation, prescribed me an oral antibiotic and hydroquinone cream— Immediately my whole body felt sensitized and I stopped the process after 1 month.

Next, I booked a series of skin treatments with a medical spa that worked on Vietnamese celebrities. My birth mother was against the idea and claimed that med spas were expensive, a scam and targeted those who were naïve and knew nothing abo skin. The treatments took care of my breakouts but lack of good home care did not break the acne cycle.

A few years later, I had clear + brilliant laser treatments performed. My skin has not been so clear of acne in a long while! However, homecare recommendation was lacking and I often felt my skin experience dehydration and chronic redness…

Fast forward to 2021, when Covid started and I’m not attending beauty school to become a licensed esthetician — where multiple skin treatments were performed. My skin barrier slightly recovered just to be thinned by harsh treatments.

I then started seeing Skin Journey by Andrea for Acne boot camp. She’s absolutely amazing! As skin barrier was recovered + the most gentle yet effective extractions were performed— my acne cleared up within 3 months!

Now all I need to do is maintain my skin with a good homecare regimen + being aware of my diet which was recommended by Andrea 🌷

I am now the most comfortable and confident in my skin. There are the occasional breakouts, PIH, pitted acne scars + chronic redness/ inflammation that I have to address and maintain.

However, skincare is a journey + the path I’m on only allows me to experience and learn firsthand the struggles of addressing different skin concerns + conditions. I couldn’t be more thankful + I look forward in sharing my knowledge and experience through my profession as an aesthetician.
