What to do if finding kittens

In most cases, if you find a litter of kittens without a mother, they are NOT abandoned. Mom is simply not there at the moment, and will return to continue caring for them. She may be hiding nearby, waiting for you to leave. Disturbing the nest can cause the mother to move them, which may not be in the kittens’ best interest. Unless you feel the kittens are in immediate danger, please, do not touch them.

About

Our Vision: No more homeless cats

Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County is the longest-running Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) organization in the country. Since 1990, we have been the guardians, protectors, and advocates for the unowned cats in our county.

We focus on cats that are not “owned” and have little to no chance of being spayed, neutered, or receiving medical attention. These cats are our county’s most vulnerable; they are the most likely to be neglected and they are the most likely to be forgotten.

To date, 40,000 cats have spayed and neutered, provided vital medical services, and given second and third chances through our foster, adoption, and relocation programs. All for cats that would otherwise slip under the radar, be neglected or simply be forgotten.

Wine Country Barn Cats

Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County practices a method of humanely curbing cat overpoulation called Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) where cats are altered, vaccinated, given medical attention, microchipped, ear tipped for visual identification and returned to where they live. But sometimes where they live is not a safe place for a variety of reasons. Such as:
-Dangerous living situations
-Habitat being destroyed by construction
-A caretaker has moved or passed away
-Kittens that were unable to be tame

These cats become Wine Country Barn Cats where they are relocated to properties where they can work, be cared for, looked out for, and lead happier, healthy lives in places such as:

-Rural Residences
-Bed & Breakfasts
-Wineries & Vineyards
-Farms & Ranches
-Barns
