What To Expect During Your Microblading Appointment

Curious what happens during the treatment? I have outlined the steps below so keeping reading! /// (1.) Please text me when you arrive at the front door. I will come let you in. We will walk back to my studio and I will give you hand sanitizer and take your temperature. You can hang your purse up and keep your phone with you if you’d like. (2.) I will look at your brows, cleanse them, take before photos and start the shaping process. (3.) During shaping, I draw a shape for the microblading to go inside. It takes about 30 minutes. When I am done I will show you and you can approve it or we can make changes to adjust the brow thickness, etc. (4.) Next I will apply a numbing cream which we keep on for 20 minutes. You can relax and fill out the paperwork. (5.) After 20 minutes I will remove the numbing cream and we will get started. (6.) The entire appointment takes about 3 hours. (7.) Microblading: there is minimal pain since you are numbed but you might feel some discomfort. I try to keep you as comfortable as possible. Some people get runny or stuffy noses, sneeze or get watery eyes. I will have tissues available. (8.) Once I’m done I will show you your brows. If you’d like anything added, you can tell me. Once you are happy, I will take pictures and put on a serum that helps with healing. We will discuss aftercare and there is plenty of time for your questions. /// I accept Venmo, cash or credit card. /// Thank you for trusting me with your brows!

What To Expect After Microblading - Healing Phases

Your brows will go through a healing process that is routinely predicable. Scroll down for in-depth details.

DAY ONE: Your brows look amazing! You might be a little red and swollen. DAYS 2-4: Your brows will likely look darker and more bold for a few days. They might have a reddish tone and feel tender. This is very normal. You can take an Advil or similar if needed. DAYS 5-9: Your brows might start flaking and/or peeling as they heal. Please don’t pick at them as this can cause scarring and remove the pigment. They might look patchy. DAYS 10-14: Your brows will likely still feel a little patchy and too light. This is normal and expected. Your skin is regenerating and has formed a layer over the pigment. DAYS 15-30: The pigment and strokes will start to look more visible. DAY 30: Take a look at your brows. Do they need perfecting? Do you want them darker or thicker? Come in for your perfecting touch up. Otherwise you are all set! Enjoy your brows!

Additional FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is microblading?

Both microblading and shading implant specialized pigment into the dermis layer of your skin. The treatment is a form of tattooing. The longevity is determined by the depth of implantation in the skin. Because we are implanting pigment into the dermis, the results will fade over time. Traditional tattoos are implanted deeper and considered permanent. The treatment can be touched up once per year (or longer) to refresh the brows.

How long is the appointment?

Microblading takes about 3 hours give or take. I never rush and always make sure to have plenty of time for each client.

Does microblading hurt? Do you numb?

Microblading does cause sensitivity. I use a pre-numbing and a secondary numbing both containing lidocaine to keep you comfortable during the microblading treatment. You might experience some discomfort depending on your pain tolerance. Most clients rate microblading with numbing as a 1 or 2 on a scale of 1-10.

Do you edit your after pictures?

A lot of people ask me this! Yes! I do! I edit the brightness and similar features of the overall photo, I edit client skin blemishes and brighten the client’s eyes. Brows are NOT edited.

Do you supply an aftercare kit?

Yes! I give you everything you need to care for your brows after the treatment.

How long have you been doing this?

I have been doing microblading since 2018. I am Phibrows and Beauty Angels certified.

Do you touch up other artist’s work?

Yes! Well the better answer is, it depends. Did the previous artist give you an ideal shape? How saturated is the work? If the shape is off or the pigment is highly saturated or has oxidized (ie it looks red or grey or another undesirable color), I suggest removal first. I offer removal for $150 per session. It is gentle and effective but takes patience. It’s worth it though to make sure we are creating the best new brows possible.

Can you make my brows look like someone else’s brows?

Not really. We can use them as an inspiration but even if I gave you the exact same brows, they would look different on you because you have different bone structure. Other factors that determine how your brows will look: your skin type, your age, your natural brow hair texture and density and your natural brow hair color. No two brows look the same and I can never guarantee your brows will look like your inspiration brows.

What happens if I don’t like it?

I urge every client to be SURE they want microblading and ask that if you are very nervous to please reschedule your appointment. This is a treatment you should want and feel mostly comfortable with. Being slightly nervous is normal, but if you are very nervous please give yourself more time to determine if microblading is for you. I will gladly reschedule you or even cancel. The client artist agreement: The client is sure they want microblading and has educated themselves on the process. They have chosen their artist carefully. The artist is certified and professional and follows the highest standards. The artist is not rushed and respects the client in the highest degree and vows to do the best job possible.

How long does microblading last?

Approximately one year but this is determined by a number of factors like how well you took care of your brows immediately after your treatment during healing, your skin type, your age and your long term care (harsh topical skincare, use of SPF, etc affect long term retention). Dry skin tends to hold the pigment longer, for example. Microblading may last longer than one year before you notice fading but once year is a good estimate. Brows can be touched up yearly or bi-yearly, etc with an annual color boost.

How often should I come for a touch up?

After your initial treatment and first touch up, I prefer that you wait one year or more before coming in for another. This protects the integrity of your skin over time and allows us time to let the brows fade a little before adding more pigment - leading to natural looking brows long term.

Can you make my brows darker or lighter?

Technically, yes. I can choose pigment that is either darker or lighter than your natural brows but I cannot change your natural brow hair color. Picking a pigment that matches your natural color, with some tolerance lighter or darker without choosing anything drastic, is best so that your brows look blended and as natural as possible.

Why does microblading heal softer in color?

The day of your appointment your brows look very pigmented, sharp and each stroke looks highly defined. Healed brows look softer and more subtle. Why? Because right after the treatment we see pure pigment in the skin. As brows heal, a layer of skin heals over the pigment. It looks softer because we are seeing the pigment under the skin rather than sitting on top of the skin. Brows will always heal 20% +/- softer and they shrink in width as well.
