Bar & Grill
Where the old meets the new
Where the old meets the new
Welcome!
A living testament to Semarang's rich history and a celebration of its vibrant contemporary spirit, LaRoKa was built on the premises of an old Dutch Theater formerly known as "De Schouwburg". This cultural cornerstone has been a beloved icon since its grand opening in 1877.
LaRoka has transformed into a dynamic venue that seamlessly blends the charm of yesteryears with the excitement of today.
For the more attentive ones, you may recognise the iconic entrance lobby (as depicted on the photo) as well as the outdoor oval shape theater.
Hope you enjoy your time with us <3
LaRoKa, derived from the Spanish word "La Roca", means "The Rock". Its Spanish roots refer to the Western inspired cuisine, Char-Grilled menu, Tapas style bites, Handcrafted Cocktails and French-Cuban interior design.
But LaRoKa is also Indonesia, its openness, diversity and curiosity. Adapted to the local phonetic, the name LaRoKa infuses a blend of international and traditional flavour in everything that we do.
As such, stepping inside LaRoKa is stepping inside a unique bar setup, and a part of Semarang's history.

Through extensive renovation work, LaRoKa was born on the ruins of the original Schouwburg premises, a colonial Dutch theater from the year 1877 which used to gather famous socialite and cultural events in Semarang. As so, one may think about the famous Dutch exotic dancer turned spy "Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod" better known by her stage name of Mata Hari, who used to perform here. The idea of a beautiful exotic dancer using her powers of seduction as a spy made her name synonymous with the french term, "femme fatale".
Today, LaRoKa is not only a venue; it is a vibrant cultural destination that pays homage to its historical roots while embracing the modern artistic spirit of Semarang.
Once the epicenter of Semarang's performing arts scene, it now hosts a diverse array of cultural events and live music performances. From traditional Javanese gamelan concerts to contemporary art exhibitions, LaRoKa celebrates Semarang's artistic diversity in its beautifully restored halls.
