Letter to an employer or client to ask for a deadline extension

Subject: PROJECT Extension Request

Hi CLIENT/MANAGER,

Hope you're doing ok this week even in light of everything going on at the moment. I’m writing to discuss my deliverables for PROJECT/CAMPAIGN that are due one DATE.

With everything going on in our nation in regards to racism and oppression towards Black people and POC in our country, I find that I am in need of taking some time to care for myself and give some attention to my well being. The issues at hand are very important to me and it has been a challenge to keep working as if it's not happening.

I’d like to request an extension to deliver PROJECT DELIVERABLES on DATE. Please let me know if you are willing to honor this extension given the circumstances.

I appreciate your understanding during this difficult time and thank you so much for your business.

Please let me know if you’d like to discuss this further or if you have any questions.

Thanks so much,

Subject: PROJECT Extension Request

Hi CLIENT/MANAGER,

I hope you're doing ok this week considering the current unrest taking place in addition to the pandemic. I, for one, have not been ok. On top of the overt and covert displays of racism happening in general every day — the recent heinous displays of racism via the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade and countless other black people, have shaken me to my core with new fervor. I have not been able to focus and am not currently performing at my normal capacity.

This all being said, I’m writing to request an extension on [insert project(s) name] that’s due on [insert date] to now be delivered on [insert new delivery date]. Please let me know if this works for you.

This new uprising to fundamentally upend and completely overhaul and stop systemic racism, whose effects are now engrained in every fiber of this country’s being, and its people, has erupted with a different force that has knocked me off my feet. I am in need of some time to continue processing what’s happening, take care of myself, and give some attention to my well-being. The issues at hand are, and have always been, of utmost importance to me as a/an [insert what race you are] and it has been a challenge to keep working as if it's not happening.

Please let me know if you’d like to discuss this further. I appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time and thank you so much for your business.

Thanks so much,
