About the Medium:

My jewelry is made from polymer clay, which is an incredibly lightweight medium. Even my biggest earrings can be worn comfortably for long periods of time. When cured properly, polymer clay is a flexible material, but please don't try and bend your earrings.

About the Process:

Many, many hours go into each collection. I have a notebook full of design sketches that I'm constantly adding too, but I typically start my collection design with the colors. All of my colors are hand mixed using my own unique recipes, and I don't think I'll ever be able to narrow down my favorite color pallets. So, you can always expect to find a good mixture of bold, bright, soft and neutral colors around here.

After all the colors are mixed, I settle on a few(sometimes several) designs that I feel fit my color pallet. These may be previous designs in new colors, or something totally new.

Now to make the earrings. Many of the pieces are made using shaped cutters, and some are made using homemade templates I've designed and cut out. You'll even find pieces that are hand shaped from extruded clay. After achieving desired shape, the pieces are cured in the oven. After baking, each sanded, drilled, washed and assembled.

After purchased, they are carefully packaged to ensure safe arrival to their destination.

I am Tiffany, the owner and creator behind Smith Avenue Clay. I live outside of a small rural Kansas community with my
husband and two adorable children. I started Smith Avenue Clay in February 2021, but I opened my first Etsy shop, Smith Ave Designs, in 2015.

My business is currently run from our home, but we are in the process of renovating the 1900s wash house on our property to create an office and studio.

I worked with clay some in high school, but didn't find it again until my daughter and I were trying to find ornaments to make for Christmas. We settled on clay ornaments and it just grew from there.

I absolutely love the versatility and endless possibilities of polymer clay. I spend hours researching, experimenting and trying new techniques, and I'm always looking for way to improve.

My hope is that my love for the craft will come through in every piece I create.

What are your earrings made out of?

All pieces are made out of durable and lightweight polymer clay. Some earrings include gold, silver and brass components, and all earring posts and hooks are nickel free. Stud posts are made from surgical stainless steel.

Are they heavy?

No, they are very lightweight. One of the great things about clay earrings. Even my largest statement earrings can be worn comfortably all day.

Do you take custom orders?

When will my earrings arrive?

Although I try to ship everything out as soon as possible, but typical turn around time is 3-5 business days. Please check out the shipping information in our policies for further details.

How do clean my earrings?

Polymer clay is a durable and lightweight material. Although the clay is bendable, it is not unbreakable. Damage may occur if dropped or improperly stored, so please, handle with care.

To clean, wipe down with a damp cloth or paper towel. If more cleaning or sanitizing is necessary, use a small amount of rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover.
