Just A Little Something About....

So I don’t know about you, but when I was a young girl I wanted a perm just like everyone else because as I got older, I just didn’t feel like anyone appreciated my puffs like I did, unless I heard the song (“I’m ruff and stuff w my afro puffs” by Lady of Rage😂). A lot of my hair styles weren’t the cutest ( I literally remember kids calling me a reindeer in elementary school 🙄) some hair styles we just never live down.
For the most part, I do remember my mom styling and greasing my hair when she could which was almost regularly or taking me to one of my family members house to get it braided in a dope style. But when she started to get her nails done and keep them done, there wasn’t much hope for me. especially when I was the only black girl in the house 😂 (my mom literally looks Spanish) so you can imagine the difference in our hair routines.
As I’ve gotten older, going into middle school, I was so excited to get my very first perm! (which didn’t take the first time so we had to do it twice 😭) I didn’t stop getting it permed until about 7-8 years ago. Now in my 20’s, along the way i’m sure you can imagine I learned about tracks/extensions, braiding hair, synthetic ponytails, lace fronts, sew ins, etc, you name it! I learned that I didn’t have to wear my hair and I could do so much more w it! so I started doing a lot of sew ins which requires me to have some what we like to call “leave out”. it’s when they sew the extensions in your hair but to make it look more natural, you leave some of your hair out. NO BUENO! it’s nice to have every once in a while but if you’re anything like I was at the time, then this IS LIFE FOR YOU! (I even had thoughts of wearing weave FOREVER) Now over my years of perming and weaving I’ve lost a lot of hair, experienced breakage way too often, and heat damage to the max. My hair naturally is very curly and soft, when going through these phases of constant neglect it turned dry, short, brittle, and stringy... my curls were no longer my curls.
